It was December 2010 and my family and I were planning to go on a trip to Mexico in December for Christmas break because me and my siblings were out of school. We were packed our clothes and ready to leave. We were waiting for my uncle to come to our house so we could go and get ready to leave. We left Houston around 8pm, and my uncle drove the Nissan Frontier truck and we went straight to 59 south towards Victoria. When we got Laredo around 12 am, we took a break at a corner store to put some gas in the car and buy something to eat, then we were ready to go.
It was a long trip, I had needed to stretch my legs out. After we got our snacks, we left the corner store, and we headed straight to the border line. I saw a long traffic and whole tons of cars waiting – in line to cross the Rio Grande river luckily, the line went fast and we were close to touching the Mexico border line. We saw lots of soldiers in Nuevo Laredo and they were taking precautions so that nothing happened to the people around the border crossing. We finally made it to Nuevo Laredo, and we were still trying to figure out where the exit freeway was so we could go straight to Monterrey.
I saw a car in front of us so my uncle followed that car, and we finally found the freeway that takes you to Monterrey. We passed Monterrey and other cities like Coahuila, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, and Guanajuato. It was a long trip and we finally made to Michoacan. My mom, my siblings and me were so tired we haven’t even slept in a day. The next day, I saw my relatives, my grandparents, and my aunts, and uncles and cousins. Of course I have greeted them, everybody had to greet them because that’s what everybody does when it comes to greeting. I went upstairs, My mom was unloading the suitcases.
She was giving my cousins the clothes that we don’t really use and other used clothes that my dad bought from his school. It was a lot, there were sweaters, jackets, t-shirts, pants, shoes that looked used like new. My cousins really enjoyed these clothes even though they didn’t notice they were used, but they still loved it. My mom bought my cousin who was 12 years old a new pair of soccer shoes because he was in a soccer team and they pretty much fit his size. He really enjoyed.
My other cousin was trying to fit the Converse shoes He wanted to take all the shoes, but my mom told him to pick only what you really like nd the rest of the shoes would be for your brothers. I started laughing, so he decided to pick the Converse shoes. After my cousins picked up the clothes, my mom, my siblings and I were in the living room, we had a little talk about how was the border line , and other family histories. I wasn’t really paying attention until somehow my cousins came up to me and asked me how to says the words in English. I teach them how to say the words correctly, it seems that they can’t pronounce the words. I ask them “ doesn’t the teacher teach you English class? ” my cousin said “ they do, but they don’t teach us that much.
I said “that sucks, you deserve a better teacher. ” he said, “ I know, I wish I knew English”. but it’s all cool with that. The next week, my family and I went to this small little town, about like 45 minutes to the city, I still have relatives in that small little town. By the time we were at the small little town, there a soccer game between the other town, I saw my older cousin in the soccer team, I was exciting because I never seen a soccer team playing with other teams and this is my first time watching a game in Mexico. My mom was there and my siblings was there, we were rooting for my cousin and his team to score a goal.
My aunt and my cousins were also there too to cheer the team up. By the time we got to the half time, I went to my cousin to buy a snack at a corner store, they have a whole variety of snacks and drinks. I decided to buy the hot cheetos and a gatorade drink they all the same as they have in USA but the only difference they have is, that the price is very different in United States. The half time has been just been started, it got kind of bored because both of these teams had never scored a goal, until a few minutes later, they finally made the goal and it was our team our little town score a one goal the other team still made a zero.
Everybody was exciting and shouting saying “Goal! ”. I would probably do the same thing too if one of my favorite teams score a goal, I would be more exciting. Visiting to Mexico has been a great experience to me, meeting my family members and meeting new people, and learning there different cultures makes me feel proud, because I’m very passionate about it. It is possible to have fun, and enjoy new experiences all at the same time. I’m pretty sure that I will visit at least once a year.
