Complete silence filled the house as I look at the blinding red LED light on my clock that read 3:08 A. M. Sitting in the clothes I had worn to school that morning, consisting of a maroon sweater with ripped jeans, with my hair in a bun to keep it out of my pale face. I heard the back door slowly creak open with that distinct gut-wrenching creek. I remembered my dad was working late today so I went downstairs to say hi to him. As I am halfway down the slippery oak stairs I almost fall when I hear what sounds to be my mother in a panic of screams.
I ran as fast as I could, seeing someone bust through the front door with force trying to get out. I ran even faster my heart ready to explode. I get to my mom’s room and all the blood drains from my face she is lying there, blood everywhere and the knife still in her side, everything went still, completely still, and the world went black. *2 years later* I was 14 when that happened now today I turn 16. This day will never be the same it will always be the day my mother was murdered and we still don’t know why the case went cold.
My dad and I slowly walk towards the red granite rock that read Catherine Iwanski and underneath in white numbers and letters it read a loving mother and wife she will forever be remembered by those who truly loved her, September 5th, 1986 – June 19th, 2016. I lean over and cry on my dad’s shoulders and just let all my emotions pour out. Later we ‘try’ to celebrate my birthday with a cake and a party for two. I went upstairs to find the only thing that brings me joy right now, my furry little cat Alfred. He is plump and has dark and light gray stripes.
He slowly got up when he saw me then he stretched his back and walked towards me, I pick him up and slowly start to cry. After about ten minutes of crying I heard a knock on my door they said “Eloise” I realized it’s my dad. I walk towards the locked door and lean against it and said: “Please go away. ” He said, “I have to tell you something very important, I should have told you a long time ago. ” I unlock the door and let him in, he told me what he wanted too. Chapter 2 He had a look of uncertainty on his face.
He looked over at me and said “Eloise” with tears starting to roll down his face and his voice quivering. “Your mom was killed because she worked for the CIA”. “WHAT!!! ” I scream as I am in disbelief, this didn’t make any sense. Why? I thought, this couldn’t be true. “She was out on a mission and a Russian spy had followed her back home he broke in and then you know the rest”. This was insane then I said, “show me proof”. We went downstairs into the creepy basement that probably had dead bodies hidden in the cracked concrete walls. We walk to this bookcase that looked like it was from the renaissance times.
My dad slowly opens the bookshelf door and pulls a book but there is a light tug on it as if someone was on the other side pulling it too. After he did that it sounded like a vault being unlocked and the bookshelf started to move I was in a state of amazement. When it opened there was a room that looked straight out of a spy movie. Guns lined up on the walls grenades and even bullet proof armor. I look over at my dad in complete and utter astonishment. We walked in but I couldn’t believe this was in our house. “The CIA never took them they left it here,” my dad said.
We walk to this table at the end of the room and there are pictures of my mom, but they were different. She was in action and fighting it was awesome! I had a slight grin on my face seeing my mom in these pictures because my dad doesn’t keep pictures on the walls or tables. I look over and my dad has tears rolling down his cheek. Chapter 3 *2 more years later* “This is it, today is the day! ” I scream. Today is the day I become 18. Now I am old enough to become an agent! I get in my car I like to call Rust Bucket. It’s a run down car from 1999 and the only thing holding it together is duct tape.
I get to this building that looked very high-tech. I walk in and the secretary greets me with a kind and gentle “Hello” `I respond with “Hi I am here for the job interview. ” She slowly got up walk over and showed me to an elevator. She then said, “press this button and walk in, the boss will be waiting for you in the room to the right”. I walk in, then press the button, I get up walk into the room and a man with a fancy suit that looked like it was thousands of dollars and his hair the color of a gray crayon. I sit down at the desk he stared at me looked up and down, got up and walked out of the room.
I sat there confused, a few moments after that I turned around and gasped there were men in black hoodies and masks sprinting right at me. For the last two years I have been training in Taekwondo and I am a certified black belt. As they are running towards me I kick and punch away as they attempt to attack me. They went down rather fast but definitely put up a fight. The alarms stopped the men got up walked out and the gray-haired man with the fancy suit walked back in looked at me held out his hand and said: “Welcome to the agency. ” Chapter 4 I was very happy and amazed that is all I had to do.
I looked at him and professionally “said thank you, sir”. “Now I have to ask you some questions” “Ok,” I say as I go back to the desk a little winded. He gets a pen clicks it and is ready to write what I say. First, he asks me my name I respond with “Eloise Iwanski”. He seemed to freeze for a second then he looked up and stared at me like I was a ghost. He seemed to not be able to speak, and then finally he was able to say, “Is your mother Catherine Iwanski”? “Yes,” I respond. He has huge grin on his face after that he said, “ I knew your mother her and I were partners”.
I was surprised that I finally got to meet one of my mother’s friends my dad never invited any over. Hi, I am Martin Ferterburger. I kind of chuckled at his last name but otherwise he seemed friendly. He questioned me with questions like where I was born and who my parents are stuff like that. I would say this is going to be one amazing job. Chapter 5 *5 months later* I am finally going to go in for the mission I have been waiting for since I was 16. I was going to find my mother’s killer and get my revenge. I was looking into my mother’s files and found out she was working over in Russia with Mr.
Ferterburger. So they assumed it was a Russian spy but they never confirmed it. She was on the lookout for Nico Vernov who was a big drug smuggler in Russia he had smuggled over 10,000 kilos of drugs in the last 15 years. They had lost the trail when my mother died. Then I thought of Martin maybe he knew something. As I am walking over to his office I hear a voice I don’t recognize, it sounded like a Russian accent. I peeked in and it was Martin he was on the phone with someone I overheard him say “Yes did we finally get the stuff from Russia over here or not. After the person on the other end was done talking he continued within a very angry voice “don’t you lie to me you get me those drugs or I swear you will never see the light of day again. ” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing this seemingly nice and gentle man could be such a cold-blooded drug smuggling villain. I could slightly hear in the dead silence of the office that the person on the other end of the phone said, “Mr. Vernov we will get you the drugs I promise they will be here by Tuesday. ” I realized Martin Ferterburger was Nico Vernov.
I quickly snuck away accidentally tipping over a cart of papers. I didn’t know if he looked back and saw me all I knew was I was going to get my revenge. Chapter 6 I went to the bathroom, and after that, I went to my desk to find that the papers were gone. All the files that my mother had worked on they were gone. My anger grew inside of me like a container being filled up until it popped. I screamed angrily inside my head. I look over and Martin or as I should call him Nico is looking at me. I realized he had seen me and I knew I had to do something soon.
Later that night when I went home I walked down into the asbestos filled basement and into the secret room I grabbed guns armor and a grenade I was ready. I turn around to find my dad staring at me wondering what the heck I was doing. I looked at him and said, “I found him”. He knew instantly what I meant he smiled for the first time in four years and said, “Go get him but be careful”. As I run past him He says, “I love you”. I turn to hug him and say, “I love you too”. As I am leaving out the front door I lock it turn around and the next thing I knew I had woke up in complete darkness my hands tied to something.
Finally, the world lit up as someone took a bag off my head I saw who, Martin or Nico I don’t know what to call him just yet. He stares at me gets closer and says, “You’re just like your mother you fell right into my trap”. I lift up my leg and kick him as hard as I could. He gets very angry and yells at his men to drag me out of the room. About an hour he came into the room there was in with a gun in his hand. I stood strong showing a blank expression on my face saying “Oh what you’re gonna kill me without a fight”. He stared at me and said “Oh I’m not gonna kill you I’m just gonna hurt you really really bad”then he walked out.
For the past hour, I had been working on untying the ropes. I had finally got it! I stood up looked around and he stupidly left the door unlocked. I peeked out and he was talking on the phone saying that he was going to kill me. Wow, why I am not surprised that he lied I say in my head. There is a table outside the room with my stuff on it I grab the pistol and run back to the spot I had been in. Twenty minutes later he came in again with the pistol. I asked him why did he kill my mom. He said She got in my way and was going to expose him. I was ready to do it.
I looked at him and said, “Yeah but you are getting in the way”. I immediately stood up pointed the gun and emptied the chamber. I knew he was dead when his body hit the ground. I ran and grabbed my walkie-talkie and called for assistance. His goons came in saw him dead and tried to attack me but just like the guards in the interview they went down with ease. Chapter 7 *7 months later* It has been seven months since I shot down Nico. I have been promoted to Nico’s old position and make tons of money. I think I can finally say my mom will Rest In Peace And I can finally live in peace.
