Bullying has been quite a growing problem in today’s society. Bullying is defined as any repeated negative activity or aggression intended to harm or bother someone who is perceived by peers as being less physically or psychologically powerful than the aggressor. The particular concern with the frequent bullying of children is that it will have an adverse impact on victims scholastic achievement, desire to attend school, and self-esteem (Olweus D. , Rigby K). Bullies are people.
Bullies want power and that’s what they get when they are picking on someone. In today’s society bullying is and will ontinue to be a problem if it is not addressed. Bullying represents a significant problem in U. S. schools, affecting approximately one in three children (Paul R. Kelly Kopasz). It is likely that bullying has gone on in school for as long as school have existed (Sharp S, Smith P, Peter K). With this kids become easy targets because they are easy to get to, whether that’s through taking face to face or text it is easy to pick on someone.
Many kids have a lot of relationships with classmates or have many friends, there could be aggression towards them and with the way today’s kids run technology is at their fingertips, most eens don’t think when they send a text or e-mail that’s how people become targets. With everything we do, with schools switching to technology or younger and younger kids getting phones and computers it is a growing technology based world cyber bullying is another major problem in today’s world. Bullying can lead to depression and suicidal thoughts, poor academic achievement, and aggression.
It should be taken less lightly than it is taken for, bullies should be punished based on the bully and the victim. Bullying can lead to mental and physical problems one major one is depression and suicide. Most kids who are bullied can say they have thought that they are alone or not important and have thought about suicide, most are badaling depression with this it only add to the situation.
Youth experiencing both cyber and school bullying had the greatest odds of engaging in aggressive and suicidal behavior ( Duong j, Bradshaw C. . when a person is all ready have problems outside of school it makes it harder to keep a straight face when they go back to school and they have someone messing with them, it makes it harder for them to get through that day, week , year and with every second that goes y there until it is too much for them to take. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is characterized by one or more Major Depressive Episodes, which are periods of depressed mood or loss of interest that endure for at least two weeks at a time (18).
Other symptoms of MDD include loss energy, feelings of worthlessness, diminished concentration, suicidal ideation, and changes in sleep, weight, or psychomotor activity (Swearer). Depression is a serious thing that most people don’t share with the others around them which can be a problem when that said person is having a bully messing with them. Bullying is ntentional aggressive behavior carried out repeatedly over time, and occurs in interpersonal relationships marked by imbalance of power (Duong J, Bradshaw C).
Bullies will do whatever they want if it means power or control over someone else. This is how they get under people’s skin and make them think the worst. Bullies have problems of their own and they lash it out on other people trying to get a reaction. With respect to victims, some studies suggest that targets of bullying inadvertently set themselves up for bullying through their passivity. Thus, some victims are unlikely to report victimization r to retaliate, which makes them appealing targets for bullies (15 & 10) ,(Swearer).
When victims feel that they are in this kind of situation they tend to not tell anyone because they are either scared that the bullying will get worse or they think that it will go away when in fact that does not happen and it only gets worse. Due to the correlation between depression and bullying others (1), a possible explanation for bullying behavior is that bullies engage in aggressive behaviors to compensate for negative feelings or low-self esteem (11), (Swearer).
When someone is oing to throw things of their own they typically don’t tell people and but rather keep it to themselves casing them to take it out on other people which are victims so in theory it starts with depression and ends in depression. Bullying doesn’t only go with depression it can also lead to poor academic achievement in school. Bullying of children may have an adverse impact on victims scholastic achievement, desire to attend school, and self- esteem (Olweus D, Rigdy K).
Most students today don’t particularly like school to begin with but when someone is bothering them or pickin on them it only adds to the hate owards school and the desire to not attend school , this might also can lead to them not caring enough on their studies or even attend school. Students or teens become so stressed out that their grades begin to suffer, children often do not want to come to school in fear of being bullied. They become depressed so they are not as concerned about their school work and rather of the bully.
A great many students are bullied at some point in their school careers. The experience often has an ongoing negative effect on their school performance, with some even experiencing increased risk of depression, suicide, and other ental health problems. (desrochers). Getting good grades is a big goal in today’s schools for colleges and scholarships, but when there is something stopping them from being at school or even paying attention in class which would cause some problems.
Students and children in general are typically cruel and it’s not that uncommon for students especially in high school where most of the bullying really gets bad, but for someone to overstep their boundaries and it goes from joking around to bullying and more and more of that they slowly start to worry about that and not the work that is at hand but more o to avoid the bully or having to deal with them face to face.
Most people today think that a little bit of bullying and name calling is completely harmless to the victim but it is, but to teach students how to handle this in a responsible and that schools should take it more seriously than just a little joke because and little joke can turn into something way more than it should be and there schooling grades can and will show for it. Every day, more than 280,00 students are physically attacked in schools and one out of ten students who drops out of school mentions repeated bullying as a factor (StopBullying. ov). When students are forced to leave or drop out school then that’s a child lost to something so temporary and that can be fixed with the right people. Bullies and victims go through a lot but they have something in common they both deal with aggression. Bullying is built on aggression and tension. Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance (StopBullying. goV). When a victim gets tired of being picked on they typically snap.
Most bullies were once victims themselves. Research indicates that bullying has serious long-term negative effects on bullies, ictims, and victims who turn to bullying as as coping strategy, longitudinal relationships between childhood bullying and victimization and adult mental health outcomes such as anxiety, depression, substance use, and conduct disorders are outlined (Smokowski, Kopasz).
Bullies use aggression as a coping strategy to get other people suched in to the field of bullying and it only grows from there on. ut aggression can also be the cause of most teens lashing out on people who have nothing to do with it, when a victim gets tired them ether get depression and that is stored aggression waiting to be used ether for the good of them r the worst or they find someone who is physically weaker to them and start to pick on them and slowly they turn from victim to bully. because it makes them forget that they were that but they don’t care it makes them feel good so that’s all that matters. aggression is definiton as hostile or violent behavior or attitudes toward another, readiness to attack or confront (google).
When someone is mad they will ether show it or not. The problem with bullying is that you don’t know who is the victim because they are most of the time to scared to say it’s them and those are the ones that grow up to be bullies and the ullies themselves fade to nothing because when the person they are picking on stops showing visible signs it becomes less and less fun to be a bully. In conclusion bullying is a wrong thing that no one should do but people do. But why they do is do to aggression, bullying can cause a lot mental problems down the road and is a growing problem in today’s society and does not need to to taken lightly.
Bullying affects more than that one kid it also affects the bullier with aggression problems and uses it as a coping strategy. Bullying is defined as any repeated negative activity or aggression intended to harm or other someone who is perceived by peers as being less physically or psychologically powerful than the aggressions of particular concern is the frequent bullying of children because this may have an adverse impact on victims scholastic achievement, desire to attend school and , self-esteem (Olweus D. , Rigby K).
With most schools technology is making it way into the learning environment so it is getting harder and harder for students to stay away from cyber bullying and with high schoolers it is really hard to keep every kid away from it even with the fire walls. Many kids have a lot of relationships with lassmates or have many friends, there could be aggression towards them and with the way today’s kids run technology is at their fingertips, most teens don’t think when they send a text or e-mail that’s how people become targets.
High school students aren’t the nicest of people with that being said kids will be kids and with this come name calling and jokes but all it takes is it to go a little too far and then it can be called bullying and then there is a bullier and a victim. Most kids find themselves stressing or worried about their studies and don’t need another reason to be even more stressed out but when they’re busy with person picking on them, then they are more worried about the bully then there studies and that’s when they start to fail their classes that’s not a good thing when you need good grades to get into college.
Aggression is a key point to bullying and victims becoming bullies. There is a lot that happens to a person when they are bullied there should be more steps taken to protect students in everyday life. Bullying can lead to depression and suicidal thoughts, poor academic achievement, and aggression. It should be taken less lightly than it is taken for, bullies should be punished based on the bully and the victim.
