American History

American History BY -rerra120 Imperialism is when one country takes over another country for economic or political reason. They want to rule the whole world and its people to make it one nation. The Imperialism began in Europe as Britain, France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Portugal and Spain competed for African raw materials and markets. Soon Japan Joined and then the United State didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to improve economy.

Imperialism at the turn of 19th century was not from my viewpoint a proper and egitimate policy for the United State to follow because it was militarily, politically, and socially problematic. American defended their countrys attentions with ethnocentric, hypocritical, and overall un-American rationalizations. They imperialized other countriesfor their own benefit and profit. They had no true reason for there imperialize. The United State made foreign countries sign a document called the Monroe Doctrine. This contract banned any country from imperializing the state. The United State was also born in a revolt against colonialism.

Those two vents cause the country to be considered a hypocrite – how can they claim that no country can imperialize and rule them, but they can do it to the others. The United state wanted a lot of countries and they wanted everyone to be like them. Henery Cabot Lodge said, “From the Rio Grand to the Arctic Ocean there should be one flag and one country. ” He believed that the United State should rule the world. “There should be one flag and one county’ it can mean a lot of countries but he was an American, so I think he is relating that the United State should rule the world.
