The authors want to prove (thesis: problem or question student wants to investigate and answer to the question or solution to the problem).
The authors explore (subtopics) how it would be better if humans perished and left o evidence of what happened on earth, how far we have come in technology will lead us to our doom soon enough, and what the significance of the sun rising at the end of each of the texts. The authors refer to (literary devices) the house dictating the time and saying what to do- significance: showing that there is no one left to do anything and the house is trying to keep the memories alive, and using nature and other things as people.
MAIN BODY Subtopic A no one is around (Cite examples, quotes, and references; also, you can add explanation and analysis) Text 1 1″eight-one, tick-tock, eight-one o’clock off to school, of to work, un, run, eight-one” this shows that when no one opens their doors that thereeeee is no one around, so where is everyone? 2. “This is the one house left standing. At night the ruined city gave off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles. This is telling us that no one is around in this story as well as the other. It tells us that there is no one left around.
Text 2 1. “And not one will know of the war, not one will care at last when it is done. ” this is significant because it is telling us that there is no one around to tell our battles. So where is everyone. 2. “Not one would mind , neither bird nor tree if mankind erished utterly” this is significant because it is now telling us that there is no one left because we all died. This is significant because like the other story it is showing us that no one would care if we died Subtopic B the world will go on with or without humans and their technological advancaments. Cite examples, quotes, and references; also, you can add explanation and analysis) Text 1 1. “Today is august 5, 2026 , today is august 5, 2026, today is .. ” this is a significant quote to the story becasue it is telling us that it is the next day at the start of the story the house said today is ugust 4,2026 and now it is the next day it is showing that the earth will go on with or without us.
2. “out from behind the rubble ash and dust shone the sun the dawn of a new day” this is significant becasue it is teling us that it is now the doawn of a n3ew age we are no longer needed on the earth. ife will go on without us Text 2 1. “there will come soft rains” this is significant because the eaning of that sentence alone is saying that even if we die life will continue without us, the earth will still have rain and life will still exist even if humans have been killed off. 2. “Not one would ind, neither bird nor tree if mankind perished utterly Subtopic C significance of the sun rising at the end of both stories. (Cite examples, quotes, and references; also, you can add explanation and analysis)
Text 1 1. Dawn showed faintly in the east” the significance of the sun is saying that it is a new day even if we died the earth would still keep going without us. It is showing us that it is a new day like a reset button on a computer refreshes the computer’s memory; the new day is refreshing the earth from all of the damage we did to it. 2. “Even as the sun rose to shine upon the heaped ubble and steam” the significance of this is it is stating that from all the wars and damage we have done it is now time for the earth to refresh itself, so it is better that the humans are gone so that there could not be any more damage done to the earth.
Text 2 1. “And spring herself, when she woke at dawn, would scarcely know that we were gone” this is saying that the earth would notice that we are gone because there would be no more damage done to the earth than there already has been. the other animals would not notice because they would not be able to tell that we are gone. It is a new day so it is time to refurbish and repair.
The earth needs time to repair itself from the damage that we caused so the sun rising symbolizes that it is a new day everything restarts and refreshes itself. . Neither bird nor tree would mind if mankind perished utterly and mother natur, the earth, would notice. “Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree if mankind perished utterly” “and spring herself, when she woke at dawn, would scarcely know that we were gone” these two quotes from the text are significant because the first quote is saying that not a single thing on earth would know that e are dead if we died suddenly. the second quote is saying that if we did die suddenly that the earth would know as soon as she woke up.
CONCLUSION Sum up the thesis. Sum up the subtopics. Sum up the literary devices. Therefore as you can see both the stories have similar means of being made. They both share the same topics, they both have the significance of the sun rising in the stories nearing the end of the stories. they both share the motif that life would go on without us. They also share the motif of no one is around nearing the beginnings of both stories. The literary devices used n the poem are the things around the earth are seen as people.
In the short story the literary device/devices used are the house stating the time and what it is doing at that time throughout the whole story. “There will come soft rains” english 12 essay By : Chris Murphy Both the short story by Ray Bradbury and the poem by Sara Teasdale are both similar and different in many ways, but they do share a common motif throughout both of them. That motif is that throughout the story and the poem it has many a time stated through a multitude of different ways that the earth will ot die if we die the earth will continue to live with or without us.
The first motif that is going to be mentioned that carries throughout all of the short story and the poem is that there is no one around nearing the beginning of the short story and the poem. Although the short story and the poem share the same motif there are differences in how they express these motifs. In the short story by “Ray Bradbury”, it says “”eight-one, tick-tock, eight-one o’clock off to school, of to work, run, run, eight-one” but none of the doors open or close in the book.
This is significant because it is showing us that there is no one around ushing to go to work, to school, et. All throughout the short story the author uses the literary device of the house saying the time and the job it is doing. The author also uses the motif of technology all throughout the short story. The short story later says “This is the one house left standing. — At night the ruined city gave off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles. this is significant to the motif to the motif of no one is around because it is telling us directly how and what happened to the human race.
The city was destroyed and the house is the only ne left standing. Therefore there is no one around anywhere in the city. The first quote being used fromt the poem is”And not one will know of the war, not one will care at last when it is done. ” this is a significant quote because it is showing us that no one is around in a different way than the short story would.
It is also telling us how all humankind died.. We all died in the war. it is also telling us that once everyone has died that no one will care that we all died. “Not one would mind , neither bird nor tree if mankind perished utterly” this is significant becasue it is telling s that where we all are; we are all dead we no longer exist on the earth and not one living thing would mind becasue nothing would care that we died the next motif in this essay is the motif that the earht will go on with or without human life and its technological advances.
Today is august 5, 2026, today is august 5, 2026, today is … ” this is a significant quote to the story becasue it is telling us that it is the next day at the start of the story the house said today is august 4,2026 and now it is the next day it is showing that the earth will go on with or without us. he day that the house stopped repeating the date is the dawn of a new day. it stands for a new day and age so what happened to us is in the past now and it is time to move on, turn over a new page, a refresh.
1. From the poem it protrays this motif differently than the short story done by Ray Bradbury. The first quote used to back this statement up is “there will come soft rains” this quote is significant due to what it means. It is saying that in the end there will be rain and we will just forget about what happened to us and so will the earth with time. The significace of this quote is that it is also telling us that teh earth will refresh itself in the end. Teh symbolic refrence to rain or any weather like rain, thunder etc… rom shakespear represents death or darkness and it also symbolizes that in this poem.
The peom is sayiing that the earth will keep going with or without us on it, the rain also symbolizes a new beggining and that the earth will keep going on without us. “Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree if mankind perished utterly” this is significant becasue ti is telling us that no one would care if we were dead or alive. All that matters is that the earth keeps going.
If a;ll of us and all of our technological advances died teh earth will go on the birds and other animals would not care becasue it does not affect them. It wont affect anything on the earth. Teh third topic or motif of this essay is the motif of the sgnificance oof the sun rising at the end of both the short story by Ray Brad bury and the poem by Sara Teasdal. The first quote taken from Ray Bradbury’s story is “Dawn showed faintly in the east”. This quote is significant to the main motif for this section of the essay becasue it is telling us that teh sun showed at dawn.
This symbolizes the dawn of a new day. Weveryhting will continue for the other animals as normal without uman kind on the earth. This is the time that the earth refreshes itself and gets ready for a new day. The second quote from the short story being used is the quote “Even as the sun rose to shine upon the heaped rubble and steam”. This is significant to the motif of this section of the short story becasue it is saying to us that it is new day but there is noo difference between today and the day before today.
It is saying that even after we all perish the sun will still rise the next mornig and the new day will still start with or without us there. The first quote taken from the poem to support the motif for this section of the essay is “And spring herself, when she woke at dawn, would scarcely know that we were gone”. This quote is stateing that only mother nature this quote is saying that even though we are gone and mothernature recigonizes this that it is still a new day a refresh and that the earth will continue to go on with or without us.
