He was one of the primary writers of the Declaration of Independence, serving as the United States ‘third President. Thomas Jefferson wrote eloquently, but he was not a popular public speaker. He contributed his words to the Continental Congress rather than his speech. When he prepared the Declaration of Independence, he was considered a silent Congressman. He was also responsible for writing the legislation, the freedom of religion.
In 1785, Thomas Jefferson succeeded Benjamin Franklin as French minister. He had said that he was in disagreement with Alexander Hamilton as Secretary of State before the French Revolution.
