The Colombian Exchange is a book written by Alfred W. Crosby JR which shows the important events that occurred when Columbus came to America in 1492. I chose this book at the beginning because I wanted to learn more about the influence of Europe on America and how Columbus changed America’s fauna and plant for better and worse. When I started reading the novel, I was instantly intrigued by all the details in the text. In comparison to the early human migrations and early land bridges, the book began by the Colombian Exchange.
I think that this is particularly interesting as it provided a clearer understanding of how early people built a paradigm and the desire to discover new lands. This quote says, “On the twelfth day of October 1492 the alliance between the old and the new worlds, which had become little more than a tenuous feature of Viking journeys, wandering fishing and mysterious communications across Polynesia, became such a link as the Bering land bridge had once been” (Crosby 3).
