Where do I see myself professionally? I see myself professionally in a field to become a physical therapy.
I say this because I have a big heart and I enjoy trying to make people’s lives easier and try to make people achieve their goals Also I enjoy taking care of people for example I take care of my mother a lot because she is a paraplegic and I am usually the one that gets her medicine for her and takes her to her doctor’s appointment also I also take care of her alot when she is sick and I try to make her go outside with me a lot and walk around the neighborhood while she is in her wheelchair so she gets air and does not become sad and depressed because I know a lot of people that become paralyzed or ill do become depressed if they do not go out alot because they are either unable to or do not have people to take them out. I also do exercises with my mother so she stays healthy and makes sure that she eats healthy too. In order to achieve this goal to become a physical therapist I will have to do multiple things.
For example I must have earned graduate degrees from accredited academic programs in physical therapy. These programs typically culminate in a doctoral degree and take at least three years to complete. To gain admission to physical therapy programs, students typically need to earn bachelor’s degrees, complete certain science prerequisite courses, gain volunteer or observation experience in the area of physical therapy, submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores and maintain acceptable grade-point averages,my GPA would have to be highly weighted for a physical therapist job which the average GPA to become a physical therapist tends to scale from 3. 5-3. . Also your grades in college need to be a C or maybe even a B or better.
You also have to take 8 labs in college. And later on you have to take the GRE test which is $160. Students in physical therapy programs may study topics like human anatomy, biomechanics, musculoskeletal system pathology and neurological dysfunction management. They may also participate in clinical internships and take hands-on clinical courses, which provide training in patient care, screening, assessment, treatment and intervention. In order to become a physical therapist you have to do 100-200 hours or either shadowing,volunteering or even working with a licensed PT.
Some professional experiences I will be doing to achieve my goal is I probably will do study abroad or try and find a physical therapist office that I can shadow for a few weeks and do some work with the field I am planning to attend to do over the summer. When I do get a job for physical therapy I want to work in the New Haven Connecticut area because I plan to stay in Connecticut for a while and if I am ever asked to relocate I am willing to do so to further my career any time. My ultimate goals for when I become a physical therapist is to be able to learn about the health of others. Also another goal is to eventually be able to remember the human body and how it works.
Some things that I have found out you have to do while you are a physical therapist is review patients medical history and any referrals or notes from doctors, surgeons, or other healthcare workers,Also diagnose patients functions and movements by observing them stand or walk and by listening to their concerns, among other methods, develop individualized plans of care for patients, outlining the patient’s’ goals and the expected outcomes of the plans, use exercises by stretching maneuvers, hands-on therapy, and equipment to ease patients pain, help them increase their mobility, prevent further pain or injury, and facilitate health and wellness and lastly evaluate and record a patient’s progress, modifying a plan of care and trying new treatments as needed.
I also have found out that most people end up retiring for a physical therapist around 55 or so but if you retire earlier it’s usually around the age of 30. I’d probably retire around the age of 50 because I would probably be too weak to lift people up but i will still make sure that i do daily activities everyday and exercise every day as well so i will stay somewhat fit even though i may not be able to lift up a person. If I were to retire I would probably try and save a million or more so I know I will be able to provide to my family and myself. Also I would try and travel around when I am retired so I can experience other places in the world but I will not travel to much because I know I will have to use my money wisely so I do not run out of it.
And I would probably try and get a part time job when I retire as well that doesn’t involve doing much so I know I will be making some money on the side and so I stay productive. My personal accomplishments while I am working or even when I am retired is to know how to take care of my family when they do get ill and to also make sure my family and I stay active. Some Sacrifices I will probably face while doing this career is the cost of school which for college I am currently spending around $46,000 or more a year and for school to become a physical therapist that will cost around 14,000 or even more depending if you attend a school in state, out of state or even a private school.
But I know I got a pretty good financial aid package this year so I only ended up paying $16,000 which I ended up taking a student loan out for it. Which will probably be what I will end up doing for the following years because right now my family and I are in a tight budget and cannot afford much. The good thing about working in this field is that it will have a 34% job growth by 2024. Also if I have to relocate just to make a better career I will be willing to relocate to make a better job opportunity happen and even possibly make more money. I have learned about the following career physical therapy that the school tuition is not as high, and there is a lot of job growth.
