Death; a terror of fear Sanger Rainsford and Marshall Will Kane experienced as that got caught up into a bundle of panic. To start off with, in the film High Noon written by Carl Foreman we quickly find out that Frank Miller is coming back to town with his gang to get revenge on the Marshall Will Kane. Unfortunately Will Kane has trouble finding deputies and has to take on this challenge alone. As we read the novel, The Most Dangerous Game written by Richard Connell we observed that the protagonist Rainsford fell off his yacht to next wake up on the mysterious Ship Trap Island.
With no one around to call for help he comes into contact with General Zaroff and is forced into playing a terrible “game”. While analyzing both of the stories, High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game we can infer many similarities and differences they portray. Both of the main characters have many similarities, while the theme has many differences and then the setting shares many similarities as well. Both of the main characters, Marshall Will Kane from High Noon and Rainsford from The Most Dangerous Game share similar personality traits that help lead up to the final result in the end of both stories. I’ve got no use for Kane, but he’s got guts (Foreman). ”
“You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If you’re honest you’re poor your whole life and in the end you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star (Foreman). ” Will Kane never gave up and stayed extremely brave throughout the rough, long, life threatening hour he was faced with. No matter what he wasn’t going to give up on his town and knew through hard times you can never run away or give up. Both main characters in High
Noon and The Most Dangerous Game never ran away and gave up and always continued to stay strong and brave as both lives were put in danger. “Rainsford did not smile. “I am still a beast at bay,” he said, in a low, hoarse voice. “Get ready, General Zaroff (Connell). ” While we know Will Kane was an extremely brave fighter we also now know that Rainsford demonstrated those exact same personality traits. We he explains he is still a beast at bay he means that he is still in control and brave and that he is ready to face General Zaroff and teach him a lesson on how killing humans was a mistake.
Both characters didn’t stop until the end and until they both reached their goal. With out the bravery, toughness, and courageous traits they both shared, the outcome of the plot may have turned out a but differently. Even though we never found out the physical appearance traits of both main characters, In the end, both protagonist from both novels High Noon and The Most Dangers Game conveyed strong, brave, tough, courageous personality traits that allowed them to revive the best outcome for the both of them in the conclusion which they were exceedingly critical in the final result.
Although both High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game share many similarities throughout, the difference in theme was significant to the plot and conclusion. “I’m not trying to be a hero! If you think I like this, you’re crazy! Amy, look. This is my town. I’ve got friends here. Tony and Harvey’ll be here. I’ll swear in a bunch of special deputies. With a posse behind me, maybe there won’t be any trouble (Foreman). ” One major theme that High Noon portrayed was the responsibility to society verse self interest.
As we can tell from this citation Will Kane didn’t stay so he could be the star of the show, he stayed because he knew he was doing to right thing by protecting and standing by his town that he built up. He knew that there was a great chance of him possibly being killed but he didn’t let that thought get in the way of his decision to support his town. On the other hand The Most Dangerous Game conveys a different major message of theme. “At daybreak Rainsford, lying near the swamp, was awakened by a sound that made him know that he had new things to learn about fear (Connell).
Although High Noons theme was responsibility to the town verse self interest, The Most Dangerous Game theme went towards a different direction that fear really can change a man. In the beginning of the novel, Rainsford and Whitney had a discussion on animal emotions and Rainsford believed that animals have really no fear and they don’t fully understand they are being hunted, while Whitney believed that animals felt the fear of the hunters since they were being hunted. In the end, it’s quite ironic because fear really did change his perspective view because now he was in sense the animal that was being hunted by the Hunter General Zaroff.

High noon portrayed a theme of the responsibility a person has to society verses self interest and how Will Kane knew he was doing the right thing by staying by his town to protect them from the harm that was coming even though there was a great possibly of him getting killed While on the other hand went towards a more subtle theme which was how fear can really change a man.
The settings in both High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game are in fact particularly significant throughout the whole entire story because the settings fit perfectly mostly with the antagonist but also have somehow effected the protagonist in some ways as well. “Look, this is just a dirty little village in the middle of nowhere. Nothing that happens here is really important (Foreman). ” Both the setting and location of the novels High Noon and The Most Dangerous were one hundred percent perfect in the way the story was laid out.
The novel of High Noon took place in a little Western town around the 1800’s. It was a desolated, remote area with little people and no one around to catch any crime going on. We also know this because only one train (the noon train) comes in each day so many people aren’t coming or going. This remote, desolated area also reflects The Most Dangerous Game setting considering both locations where far out from any one around to reach out for any help.
His eyes made out the shadowy outlines of a palatial chateau; it was set on a high bluff, and on three sides of it cliffs dived down to where the sea licked greedy lips in the shadows (Connell). ” The mysterious island, Ship Trap captured sailors by tricking them in onto a desolated island full of animals and traps. The Most Dangerous Game took place on an island in the middle of know where we’re there were no police, people, or anyone to call for help expect innocent sailors who unfortunately get mislead into a place of death.
The Most Dangerous a game and High Noon convey similar settings because both are lawless which means crime can occur and know one would never know, but always both are extremely important to the antagonist of the story because for Frank Miller he was glad Kane decided to stay in the town since many people were hiding out and no one was around to stop him. And for General Zaroff no one was also around to know what he was doing so he easily got away with playing the human killing game without anyone ever having to know.
