Throughout the semester, I have learned a lot about the English language. Some of the tips that I have learned in this English Composition Class is how to write: Argumentative Essays, Analysis Essay In each topic or type of writing, I have learned a lot of new skills that I have not been told before. For instance, in an Argumentative essay, in this type of essay, you are supposed to introduce the readers to the topic and what is your opinion on it. Then, include all reliable sources that support your argument. Also, the writer is always supposed to include the counterargument side to the paper.
It will make the reader more intrigued with the text they are reading. In an Analysis Paper, always include reliable sources. When analyzing a paper, the reader wants proof of the theory you are stating. What is the meaning behind of this paragraph? Why did he/she describe this thing with such profound details? What is his or her stand on the topic of the text? In this type of essay, always look beyond what you are reading. The writers are supposed to make the reader think: “Why did she write this? What does he mean by this? ” etc.
In addition, what I have learned from this class is that you are always supposed to grammar check your essay. Never write the way you speak. This will not only make your readers lose interest but, it will also agitate those that likes to read and read the whole essay feeling confused on what you are saying. Always try to upgrade your vocabulary. This will make the writer sound educated and their work being worthy enough to be read. The essay that I have learned most about is Argumentative Essay.
I like to question the Male athletes, on the other hand, tend to be subject to a greater analysis of their sporting abilities; n-field exploits and physical capabilities are given a higher priority. It seems to me that, although women athletes are profiled, and this is great, the way the media goes about this seemingly is to attract a greater male readership. writer on his reasons for the topic being read. Seeing the difference between a biased writer and a writer who states his side profusely but, then like to give credit to the opposing side. This makes the writer seem like he/she is not arrogant to not acknowledge the opposing side. I like to see what people thinks on certain topics.
For example, there are many articles stating their belief on media misrepresentation on female athletes. Some will say that female athlete should still act feminine whether they are playing a manly sport or not. Others would say that it does not matter if the female athlete is feminine or not. What is important is how good they are in the game. In the article, “How the Media Portrays Females Athletes”, Aimee Lamoureux includes a quote from Donna A. Lopiano that when males win a game, media shows off their skills and their winning to all who is watching. When a female athlete wins, the media focuses on how the woman looks.
Or, any other non-related activity that she is doing. In paragraph 2, Lamoureux quotes, “Girls also see a double standard in covering women’s sports. When male athletes receive media attention, such coverage is primarily focused on their skills and performance. When female athletes receive media attention, the media is much more likely to focus on their physical attractiveness or non-sport-related activities. ” Women athletes are never represented for their winning or their effort in any of the activities they do. All that the media likes to focus on are the women femininity.
Another point of view that relates to this topic is from the article, “Male & Female Athletes In The Media: Are They Equally Portrayed? ” This article is written by a male and he does state some theories that are sadly true. For instance, in paragraph 4 he states, “Male athletes, on the other hand, tend to be subject to a greater analysis of their sporting abilities; on-field exploits and physical capabilities are given a higher priority. It seems to me that, although women athletes are profiled, and this is great, the way the media goes about this seemingly is to attract a greater male readership. The majority of the population that watches sport are males.
Obviously, if the media only source of having business being good is by getting male’s attention. Then so be it. They will show the good aspects in a male athlete. Whereas, in female athlete, the media will show their femininity and their physic. These things will definitely get the male’s attention. Moreover, when writing an argument essay; always include the counter argument or the opinion of someone of the opposite sex. This tip will let the readers know the full picture of the picture.
They will understand both sides of the argument and come to the conclusion on which side they agree to. Argument essays are my preferred writing style. I get to use my voice to state my opinion in something without being stopped by anyone. This type of essay lets me express how I truly feel about a topic and to make the other person understand where I am coming from and why I believe my statement is true. In addition, my greatest accomplishment in this class is improving my writing skills and regaining my interest in reading articles and stories about reality issues and such.
Once long ago I used to enjoy reading topics about what is happening in the world. Then, after a certain time period; I have lost that interest and decided to ignore the real issues that need to be solved. Reading these types of article in the class have helped my interest for this type of thing to come back. I will begin to read more about what is going on around me. I will see multiple opinions. This is my greatest accomplishment from being part of this class. Furthermore, as I was writing all of these essays; I have learned a few things about myself.
I like to prove where I get my information. I include resources to prove my theory of a certain topic is right. Also, I do over analyze when reading an article. For example, if the writer of the article that I am reading describes something with a lot of details. I question myself, “what does he mean? ” “Does this represent something big? ” “Am I missing something? ” By doing this, I have seen that my curiosity has grown throughout the semester. I question everything I read and try to come up with my own theories on what he/she truly meant.
Finally, at the end of the semester; when I read my essays. I will see great improvement in my writing. I don’t write how speak. Also, I try to make the readers feel a certain way when reading my essay. As my major is English Education; this class has helped me improve greatly. I can use these skills that I have learned to students that I will teach in the future. In Conclusion, the top three pieces of advice that I will give to next semester’s College Composition classes is: Don’t expect your professor to tell you everything you need to do.
Read your syllabus. Read your emails frequently. Always grammar check your essays or any work you give in. Go to apps like Grammarly, or the website www. paperrater. com to revise your paper to see if there are any mistakes. This will help you greatly. I have learned from my mistake and I am passing along tips that will make sure you do not do the same mistakes as I did.
In addition, my effort in writing has changed throughout the semester. In the beginning, I have been writing an essay the same way I have been taught all four years in high school. Towards the end of the semester, I have begun to focus more on my writing. Trying to put all of my effort to make the reader understand my point of view in the text. example, if the writer of the article that I am reading describes something with a lot of details.
