Abstract Expressionism was started in the middle 1 ass’s. The first time the term was used was to describe a painting by Sandusky. The term usually describes New York School of Painters. Most often there are uses of no figurative and no representational figures used in the works. Rashers Gorky was the most instrumental in the Abstract Expressionism period. His work often is dictated by his studying of nature. In his work you can see the brush strokes which create a sense of movement.

Jackson Pollock is best known for his “action painting”. This was achieved by using drip technique to create his work. It is hard to distinguish any figures or subject matter in his work. William De Cooking also used action painting in his work however unlike Pollack, there are often he used partial figures that can be recognized in his work. He created a large collection that use woman as the subject. Pop Art became very popular in the 1 ass’s.

This subject matter often imbibes commercial, mass media and everyday images into the work. Richard Hamilton is credited with the Pop Art movement. His work “Just what is it that makes today’s home so different, so appealing? ” is a collage of modern day images placed together to create a living room scene. Jasper Johns used a constant theme of using a boundary between art and everyday objects. He used these images in many different was including classic American things. He often used maps and flags of the United States.

Robert Reassurances used a variety of objects in his work. He also used a lot of silk screening images onto his canvas. His heavy use of media objects was second to his use of drips of paint to partially blur the images.
