A personality type assessment was done to determine in which of the 16 personality types I fell in to. Based on my individual preferences I was given a four letter personality type, as well as a two letter temperament. Throughout this paper I will explain what those letters are and how they explain certain traits of my personality. Not only how they describe me as an individual, but how they manifest in my work environment and my relationships with others. Also, to understand why I am so passionate about one topic and can be so disconnected from another at the same time.
I was able to understand why there were certain careers that I leaned towards and how that also ties in with my personality type. This was a great tool to assess my strengths and how I can use them to their full potential, but also for me to be familiar with my weaknesses and what I can do so they do not get the best of me. Keywords: Personality types, temperaments, What makes up an Introverted, Intuitive, Feeler, and Perceiver Individual? According to the C. Jung and I. Briggs Myers type theory, there are 16 main personality types.
These combinations are made up of the individual’s source of energy: Extraverted (E) or introverted (1), how they gather information: Sensing (S) or iNtuition (N), how they make decisions: Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), and their everyday operation preferences: Judging () or Perceiving (P). Based on a person’s individual preferences they are given their four letter personality type (e. g. ESFJ, INTJ) (Information about Psychological Type, 2016). This could be further condensed into the Keirsey four temperaments (NF, NT, SJ, SP. When I took the Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test (Leverage Your Personality Type, 2016), it revealed my type is INFP and my temperament is NF. Introverted When I read what makes someone introverted or extraverted | quickly came to the conclusion that I am dominantly introverted. Thave always been told I am a great listener and often my friends look for me to discuss their problems. I enjoy alone time, I often feel after a long day at work dealing with people I need to retract and disconnect myself.
I am quite shy in situations where I feel I don’t have control or where I am not too familiar with the subject, therefore I think twice before I speak up and give my opinion. I would rather have a few real friends, than to be surrounded by a multitude of people constantly. There are situations where I seem to be extraverted, but that takes a lot of energy, my nature is introverted. iNtuitive I believe I’m intuitive, I have always had a really big imagination and when I was younger I always had a movie playing in my head and often was told I had my head in the clouds.
As I have gotten older, I’ve had to bring myself out of the movie and into reality. I always have several things on my mind and I have to make the effort to focus many times. I am fascinated by the future because it gives me hope there is something better up ahead. This helps me especially if I’m going through struggles, the knowing that it is not always going to be this way. Something that really defines me is the need to know the meaning of everything, I need to know “why? ” Feeler This the only one that I struggled with because I have many traits of both, I can see how feeler has a slight advantage.
I am someone that can be stable in situations where others can be upset and I am someone who likes clarity in situations. I am not afraid to own up to my mistakes or when I do something wrong. I like to be transparent in situations, even if I’m going to hear something I don’t like. I like to put myself in other people’s shoes and realize that not everyone thinks or feels like me and I need to take their sides into account, but I don’t let people take advantage of me. I do not like unresolved issues or brushing things off.
Perceiver Tam definitely a perceiver, because I often have many things on my mind at once I am easily distracted. I can change topics of conversations quick and with random thoughts. I always struggle with pacing myself and often leave things to the last minute and then I have to hyper-focus on those things to get them done in time, most of the time I get it done, but definitely putting myself under stress. I have what I call an organized mess many times. It has been this way my whole life and I try to keep things in order, but it always ends up looking like a mess.
However, I know where all my things are and I rarely ever lose anything except for small things like earrings. I like possibilities and I like to see what my options are before I settle on something, this ranges from small things like buying an outfit to life decisions like who I’m dating. INFP Personality Type and NF temperament As I studied the preferences individually, I saw parts of myself in them. I was stunned to see how they worked together (INFP) to embody the essence of my personality.
I can see how being introverted and liking having time to myself complement my imagination and the way I see the present and the future. It is when I am alone that I think about what is going on in my life and what I can do to make it better. I think about the things I have to do and what I have to do to accomplish them. I feel deeply for others and I try to see situations from their perspective. I am very passionate about the things I do because I try not to do anything that goes against my values. I like flexibility especially at work, I don’t like to be confined to a specific routine every day.
I believe a lack of flexibility cuts off my creativity. There is also a shortcut to the 16 personality types and that is the Keirsey 4 temperaments (NE, NT, SI, SP) “According to Keirsey and Bates, [we the NF temperament] are the idealists of life and tend to serve causes that advance human interests” (Kreoger, Thuesen, Rutlege, 2002). I believe this to be true for me because when I think if I wasn’t doing what I’m doing now I would be an academic advisor, school counselor, or teacher. I would like to be doing a job where I felt | was helping others.
INFP Individual at Work These personality tests have really opened my eyes to see that everyone is different, everyone has a different personality and if we are conscious of this then we can maximize people’s strengths and help in the weaknesses. If as an organization we take the time to understand one another, it could save us from a lot of misunderstandings that are the result of the different ways that we make decisions and process information. I think it would be helpful if we took the time as a team to get to know our strengths and weaknesses.
I will bring it up to the manag and the V. P. of my department that it would be great if the team took the assessment and we discussed it. I believe this would bring mutual accountability from within the organization and it could change our attitudes and ultimately change our structure for the better. (Fischer, K. , n. d. ) I have learned about myself and the reasons why I put my heart and effort into certain projects and I can be so distant from others. I realized projects I’m passionate about are because I feel that the end result will be for the good of everyone involved.
I also see my weaknesses and how I can be seen as distant and reserved because of my introverted nature, especially to people who do not know me. Also, my space can be seen as disorganized to others because of the way I process information, but I know where all my things are. While reading the book Typetalk at Work I have learned a lot about my personality and how it currently relates to my job. I am the assistant of the vice president of my department. I get along well with my co-workers and I do not really get into their business unless what they are doing directly affects my tasks.
I always say I love my job because I believe in our cause and want to push to make it better. I am constantly thinking what we could change in order for us to be more productive. This has caused clashes because many times my intention was to do something for the general good of everyone but some people like everything to be done in a specific way and are skeptical of change. I understand now that this could be avoided if others understood my motives as I understand why others might be resistant.
