It was the beginning of my senior year, at Mission Bay high school, the last year of highschool for me and my friends to live out our lives before we move on to college and a whole new ball game. As I walk through the double doors leading into the crazy hallways of Mission Bay I spotted my friends all talking outside of our first hour class, Spanish III. I walk over to them and joined into the conversation of last years and legacies they wanted to leave on the students. My friends and I were the 100th graduating class to come from that high school, so everyone expected us to come up with something great to leave behind.
The bell rings and all of us headed into class with the one of best teacher ever. Her name was Mrs. Garcia and she was not only an amazing Spanish teacher but she was also in charge of planning our end of the year senior trip. I was in class for only short 55 minutes and the whole time we talked about the trip and where we had decided to go. “First order of business is to decide where the seniors want to go for their senior class trip. So does anyone have any suggestions for places to visit? ” Mrs. Garcia stated very serious.
After only a few minutes of sitting in silence because everyone was thinking someone raised their hand to speak. “How about we go to Washington D. C. to learn more about our history and to see the cool statues from the past wars we fought in. ” Stated from Abigail Smith, one of the smartest people in the school who only wanted to learn and have no fun. “That sounds like a fun suggestion. Does anyone have any others? ” “How about we go to California so we can surf and enjoy the beach. ” This was said by Missy Shaw. “I like that idea, I could use a little tan myself. ” She said as she chuckled. Does anyone else have any last minute suggestions? ” After a few more minutes of silence I finally got the nerve to raise my hand and say my idea to the class of everyone I have known for years. “What about a trip to Niagara Falls? ” | stated with some nervousness in my voice. “That is an amazing idea. I have always wanted to go to Niagara Falls. Does anyone have any more possible ideas? ” No one raised their hand, after five minutes had passed Mrs. Garcia spoke again. ”
Since no one has any more ideas, let’s take a vote on which place we should visit. Who wants to go to Washington D. C.? Only two people raised their hands, Abigail Smith and her boyfriend Derek Salmon. Just as she was about to ask who wanted to go to Niagara Falls as an option, Alex Peabody walked into class with a late pass, as usual. He was always late to school and nobody knows the reason why. It was different almost everyday. ” Sorry I’m late Mrs. Garcia, I had some car troubles this morning and had to take my car to the shop on the way to school. ” He stated almost out of breath from running to school. “That’s OK, just go ahead and have a seat. We are talking about where we want to go for our senior trip.
OK, so now that everyone is here, who wants to go to California for the Senior class trip? ” Only three people had raised their hand and it was the girl who suggested it and her two best friends. “Ok and lastly, who wants to go to Niagara Falls? ” Nearly the whole class except for the two who wanted to go to Washington D. C. and the three people that wanted to go to California raised their hand. I finally had a good idea for once! Yay! ” OK class, looks like we are going to Niagara Falls for our senior class trip. Hope everyone is excited, I know I am. Since we only have 10 minutes left everyone can talk amongst themselves. Everyone started talking to their friends and moving around the classroom and out if the corner of my eye, I saw Alex walk up to Mrs. Garcia to ask her a few questions. From what I overheard, he had ask her what the first trip was all about and who had suggested the place Niagara Falls.
When he finally got the answers to his questions, he started to walk over to me and my friends, I got this feeling in my stomach and I didn’t realize what it was until he was standing right next to where I was sitting. “I like the idea for the Niagara Falls trip, it sure beats Washington D. C. and California any day. Dreek stated with a sort of laughing tone to his voice. I didn’t know what to say, it was almost like I had lost my voice and couldn’t move. “Thanks. ” | quickly said just as the bell had rung. I picked up my stuff and fast walked out of the classroom. That is when I knew that I was falling for our schools high school star baseball player. The school had made an announcement that said that our senior trip had been accepted and that it would be on May 15th and it would only last three days. It was August 4th, and there was a total of almost 260 days until the trip of a lifetime would arrive.
I was counting down the days that would eventually lead up to the trip of a lifetime. The trip was four days away and I was excited as ever, this is the first thing I have done on my own, this is finally a sense of freedom for me. The day had finally arrived for my school’s trip to Niagara Falls. I had to be at the school by 6:00am so that we could catch our plane in time. The plane ride was a total of almost 7 hours and honestly it was very exhausting, my friends and I had talked for most of the time but we did also sleep for almost two hours because a lot of us didn’t get good sleep the night before because of the excitement.
As soon as we got off the plane, we all shuffled our feet to the van that was taking us to our hotel. Even though it was only 5:00 in the afternoon, we all decided to eat dinner and then go to bed to get a good night’s sleep before waking up early again tomorrow to go to Niagara Falls. The next morning, we got up at 5:00, bright and early, to get on the bus. I had to grab a cup of iced coffee and a small breakfast to eat on the bus and then we were off. I sat next to my friends on the bus and we talked the entire time but I couldn’t help to look every once and while over at Alex.
About an hour into the trip I even caught him staring at me and then we both looked away very quickly. I had no idea what was going on with my feelings for him, I mean he is way out of my league and he is the school’s star baseball. He would never go for someone like me, all shy and nervous around him or when he is near me and has very few friends. After what seems like 4 hours, it was really only 1 hour and 30 minutes though, we had finally arrived at Niagara Falls. As | exited the bus I thought to myself that this sight was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.
As everyone got off the bus, Mrs. Garcia asked us to pair up into groups of two, no one could really do this because they all wanted to be with their friends and their boyfriends. Since no one was able to chose who to pair up with, she paired us up. She paired some people up with who they wanted, all of my friends got paired up together, and then she ended pairing me up with Alex, which made me nervous but I was also excited. Let’s just say that our conversation at first was very limited. “Hey. ” I said very quiet. “Hey” He said very confident but I sensed a little nervousness in his voice.
After everyone was introduced and said their hellos to the partner they were paired up with, Mrs. Garcia told us go around and explore while she went to go and explore for somewhere to it. He wanted to go around with his friends and went wherever they wanted to go. “Hey, would it be cool if we went with my friends for a while? ” He asked unsure if that was the right way to state it. ” Sure, why not. ” I replied, wondering if that was the correct answer. Alex and I walked around with his friends for almost half an hour before he finally spoke again. ” Maybe we should go and explore for a little bit on our own.
I know my friends can be a little crazy sometimes. ” I didn’t know what to say to that. Did he want to ask me something or did he really want to go exploring with just the two of us? ” Sure, I would like that. ” I replied with a little bit of flirtiness in my voice, but the nerves still took over a little bit. We walked around for a little bit and then we decided to go over to where the edge of the falls was. I had asked him if he wanted to take a picture with for the yearbook. He gladly said yes and we stood there while we waited for the camera to turn on. Just before the picture was aken, I had lost my footing and started to fall backwards.
I was just about to fall off the edge but then I felt a pair of hands wrapped around my waist to try and catch me. I didn’t whose hands they were, I was thankful that they had caught me and saved me from falling to my death. I turned around the see the pair of hands that had caught me and thankfully it was Alex. Alex asked if I was ok and I had replied that I was fine and just a little shaken by the whole situation. I thanked him again and we continued on with the rest of our senior trip. After we had gotten back, Alex had asked me on a date and I gladly accepted.
