During its first trip during 14 April 1912, a great ship named Titanic sunk. There were several reports that night about icebergs from other ships. There seems to be a dispute as to whether the warnings hit the bridge or not. The response to this question can never be known to us. The biggest tragedy of all may be that not everyone had enough lifeboats on board.
According to Walter Lord, author of The Night Lives On, when the iceberg was first announced to the bridge, the titanic should have been rescued from the very beginning of the crisis. If First Officer Murdoch had steamed straight on the iceberg, he would have avoided it. Instead of trying to stop it.
