Yet in “The Wave”, takes place in the 1960 s in the United States of America. The teacher of a history class, Mr.. Ross conducts an expert meet to demonstrate to his students how the Germans stood by when the Nazis took over. It begins as a small group of teenagers that then turns into a school wide epidemic. The cough both movies have many similarities they have many differences as well. Characters from “The Wave’ correspond with many of the characters from “Swing Kids”. But the set tings and many other aspects are different. In both “Swing Kids” and ‘The Wave’ there are groups for youth to join.
In “SW Ins Kids” the group is called the HI, or Hitler Eugene. In “The Wave” it is simply call deed The wave, hence the title. The groups both seem welcoming but are mainly made up of propaganda. Also, both groups wear armbands with their symbol, have flags, and all follow a single leader. The HAJJ and The Wave basically brainwash their members to make them believe e that they are a part of something good. Both groups are trying to propose a “new world or of sorts. Creating a new way of life where people can’t think for themselves but follow everything that the group does.
In addition, both have a solute. The HAJJ would raise their arm and hand and exclaim, “Hell Hitler! ” and The Wave would pound their hand on their chest an d raise it while saying “Strength through discipline, strength through community, strength thro cough action. ” Both movies had some sort of “secret (yet not so secret) police”. The Nazis an had Gestapo who reported antitank actions to the leaders. The Wave just had students that beat up other students who insulted The Wave and did not approve/ want to join. Members of the HAJJ made up much of the Gestapo as they were young adults.
Students in The Wave also acted as the “police”. In certain scenes of the movie, students even acted as g awards, much like the Gestapo in “Swing Kids”. Then, there are the character similarities. The main character of “Swing Kids”, peter and the main character Of “The Wa’?’, Laurie are very much like each other. Both are strong, stay true to themselves, and do not conform to the ways of others. Then there e is Thomas (Swing Kids) and David (The Wave). They are both extremely close to the maim n characters, Thomas is Peters best friend and David is Laurel’s boyfriend.
