1. The Schindler’s List Directed by Steven Spielberg in 1994. Starting Liam Neeson, Ralph Fienne, Caroline Goodall and Ben Kingsley. The Schindler’s List is based on a true story of a German businessman named Oskar Schindler. Oskar helps Jewish people by giving them jobs in a factory, which is in Poland. As more of World War two is in progresses the fate of the Jewish people becomes clearer to Oskar. He understands that they will be killed simply because they are born a different race; Oskar is still “friends” with the Nazi only to save the Jewish people.
At the beginning of Oskar’s business plan he uses the Jewish people because he will make more profit but Oskar being a human starts to see the horror and sympathy sets in and he is able to save over 1100 Jews from death. The Schindler’s List to me is more of a Realism movie because it was based on a true story, one of the biggest difference between this film and another Holocaust films is that Jewish people are shown before the war gets started for example Schindler’s occupies a lavish apartment that once owned by a rich Jewish family. The film would not be considered a formalism style because the director does not bend the truth.
Spielberg production makes sure that the Holocaust is portrait as a classicism film because he does not leave any crucial information out. The Schindler list style of editing from production to the casting all ties the story together. In every scene of the film is considered classicism because the story is told so well that the technique of production is magic. Every scene is enhanced for emotion for example clip 0:11-0:17 is a great example of Spielberg editing style with classicism technique, every cut reveals new characters, emotions and maybe a different scene.
The scene jumps into an officer walking up to a Jewish worker, the scene focus on the Jewish man and instantly you see him nervous for his life. The officer commands him to make him hinge and times him; after he is done the officer points out that the Jewish man has been there since 6am and only has a handful of the hedges done. The scene moves to the outside and the Jewish man is on his knees while the officer tries to shoot him in the back but his gun is not working he attempts multiple times but fails; the officer hits the Jewish man and walks away.
The scene is a great example of Classicism because the scene is true, it did happen not once but many times, you never see something in this film and say out loud that only happens in movies but rather that is exactly the way it happened. The genre of this is film is many different ones; war film, history, biographical film, drama and epic film. 2. Steven Spielberg was born on December 18th 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a child Steven was an amateur filmmaker and his child like immigration is still in his mind for example he was always interested in the world beyond earth and that’s when he directed E.
T. Spielberg understand how the human orks and primeval fears such as many people are scared by ocean and its hidden mysteries. Jaws were filmed in 1975 and still in 2017 it’s considered to be one of the greatest horror movies. Jurassic was created in 1993 and the sequel followed shortly after that, the cause of these movies was imagative fantasy also with Peter Pan Hook. The reason why Spielberg is such a great director is because he still has that child like mind to him. Like many successful people Spielberg growing up was never interested in his studies.
He lived a normal life being the oldest of four children, his family moved a lot while growing up hich allowed him to explore many different cities and people and his mother really loved him. During all the moves Spielberg used his family camera and would make narrative movies and he would attempt to set up different shots with different angles for special effect naturally he was born with his gift. Impressively by the age of twelve he made his own movie with a cast and everything. Spielberg went to California State Long Beach he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English.
During his time as a college student California at the time did not have a film program so Spielberg would watch movies as much as he could, e also managed to get pass the guards at Universal Studios just to watch movies being filmed. Spielberg created this film called Amblin which he entered in a contest and won and landed him a seven year contact with the studio he once use to sneak into. During this time of his contact many companies would offer him scripts but he was not impressed with the properties they offered him so he withdrew from mainstream in order to produce his own projects.
Spielberg doesn’t have a style of film because he can from a history film to an action film. What he does have is trademarks for example “The Spielberg Face” which s when the camera zooms in on the characters as they are looking into something. Second “The Reflection Shot” which is using the camera with different angles using a mirror or reflection to capture his characters indirectly. The third I “Parent Issues” which means that every main character in his films has some issues with their parents or kids.
The fourth style is “Glowing Lights” which Spielberg would experiment with texture, lightings to enhance his films. 3. The film opens with a with a close up of a pair of hands lighting a candle a man saying a Sabbah from a Hebrew prayer. The scene is in color and the rest of the film is in black and white, the smoke from the candles represents the steam coming of from the train, which is mostly used to transport Jews from one place to another. The scene moves towards massive Jewish many arriving from Krakow to Poland and they are being register.
In the scene the massive numbers of people arriving to Krakow indicates how big the Holocaust will become. This example of how big it is or will become is never shown throughout the film but only in this first scene. The scene might be early in the morning. 4. This is scene s one of my favorite scenes because of depth that goes into creating such a masterpiece. The scene opens in daytime Schindler dresses himself before going to a dinner, he puts on a suite with a Nazi pin to show his support for the party. When Schindler arrives no one knows who he is not even the waiter.
He pays waiter money just to get a table, when he is there Schindler analyzes everyone and everything going on. Being a businessman he is naturally smart and has a plan for that night. When Schindler sits down he notices the best table in the restaurant has a “reserved sign” and he deeply wants to become riends with anyone who has power, so that they can help him in his business. He notices a Nazi general with a friend and a singer have a seat in a table across, Schindler calls his waiter over and buys them a bottle; when the waiter ask who should I say its from, all Schindler says, from me.
The waiter goes back to his friends and they ask each other whom this man being Schindler is? The bottle is bought to the table and the general tells his friend to go ask Schindler whom he is. Schindler like old friend tells the man to have a seat in a very welcoming way, the eneral gets up with anger and walks towards Schindler when he does, he is also welcomes by him in a very nice way they all have seat and began to have a good time. While this is going Schindler would get many tables and fill them with Nazi generals, setting up like a private party.
When the man with the “reserved sign” finally walks in the entire place is with Schindler having the best time and that’s when Schindler gets in good with the Nazis. All Schindler had to do was simple mind manipulation. 5. The main ideologies in this film are Ethnocentrism, Capitalism, and Patriarchy. The Germans represent ethnocentrism in this film being that they are far better than anyone because of their own race, nation or culture.
The second ideology in this film is important because Schindler is a full capitalist by taking advantage of the war and starting a business using Jewish money and labor. For example in a scene while Schindler is eating lunch a one armed Jewish man comes in and thanks him for giving him a job and Schindler is not interested because he doesn’t care about the people but only the money, soon after he sees what is really happening he has a change of heart.
