Do people ever think about the consequences about drug abuse? Not many of us do but we all know what it does to us. Drugs are harmful to the brain and the body system itself; they affect the heart in many ways and because of that people become unconscious as to what their actions are. They do not realize how badly they can harm the community around them. Drugs are normally used by those who are not involved in activities such as, religious clubs, sports, etc. The users are normally stressed out with life and at times they just need something to set their minds aside from problems which occur in their everyday life.
There are many reasons as to why and how drugs affect the community around the drug user however; there are also reasons as to why a person may use or get involved with drug usage such as being poor or even the lack of socializing. The main reason as to why people use drugs is because they don’t socialize much with the people around them. They believe that the further away they are from the rest of the world the better therefore when a person separates himself/herself they are actually leaving socializing and will sooner or later become lonely and feel left out leaving them with no self confidence as to having friends or any loved ones.
As time goes by, these people who have no one to socialize with believe that they can set their minds off of it by smoking or sniffing drugs. Moreover, they believe that the more drugs they buy from others, the more friends they make, the more they are socializing but in the wrong way. It is not only the drugs affecting the community but it is the community affecting itself. The community has so much racism involved between all cultures and ethnicities that people try to ignore the fact about who and what they are.
The racist’s acts and comments cause all types of hatred such as the Caucasians wanting to be Black and/or the Blacks wanting to be Caucasian. The blacks and whites aren’t the only type of people who are at times racist against each other but there are other groups such as the Indians verses the Pakistani’s who are racist at times also. Racism causes self consciousness and that leads to drug abuse because they believe that it will take the thoughts out of their minds. Not all types of drugs are as harmful such as marijuana which is at times used for medical reasoning’s.
There is also the harm about giving birth to a child when abusing drugs. When a pregnant woman uses drugs she affects the fetus. Scientist have studied facts about the babies born from marijuana users were shorter, weighed less, and had smaller head sizes than those born from the mothers who did not use the drug. When a baby is smaller than its average size the health of the baby has more of a risk to it than an average sized baby. Drug abuse has negative effects on the fetus because they are transferred from the placenta to the fetus which harms the birth of the baby.
If a pregnant woman is taking in drugs she is making it harder for the unborn to breath and most of the drugs can cause a miscarriage. If the mother is smoking heroine while having a child, the child can become immune to that drug and become dependant on it. PCP and LSD can lead to various problems for the child such as, low birth weight, poor muscle control, brain damage, and withdrawal syndrome if they are used frequently. When someone is using drugs it is easy to tell by their physical signs; when a person uses marijuana they may have a chronic cough and/or asthma conditions.
Marijuana weakens the immune system which leads to pneumonia and other infections. Stimulants cause an increase in the heart rate and the blood pressure whereas the other types of drugs like heroine cause the heart rate to drop and slow down. Researches show that the cost of drugs is very high. In America itself it was estimated that two thousand illegal drugs cost us 161 billion dollars. Because of these costs and usage of the drugs, the healthcare prices have also increased to 12. 9 billion dollars.
Teenagers on the other hand, especially in the adolescent age are very curious about such matters. They believe in taking risks and trying new things because they are interested in what it does to them and how. Teenagers aren’t aware at all times about the drug and how it can affect the body but they are aware of the fact that it is harmful. Adolescents try things because they think that since their friends are doing it, it is cool to be like them because they assume that drugs make us feel good about ourselves.
They believe it reduces stress however it is hard to keep a teenager away from testing such things because this is the time where they ask for their independence. Teenagers are likely to get involved with drugs if they have a history of drug abuse, if they are depressed, if they have a low self-esteem, and if they are left out of groups or clubs which make them feel unwanted. These types of acts should be avoided and the teenager should join all the clubs and/or groups they possibly can so they can stay out of deviance.
The teenagers themselves are always the drug users; the parents of the child can be abusing him/her with the use of drugs and is not willing to seek help for it. They believe that being the parent has no influence on the child if they smoke because in school the child is learning not to. However, the child is influenced by the parent more than anyone else that is in contact with them. It is hard to take someone away from that type of mentality that just because their parents smoke doesn’t mean that they should follow in their foot steps but that is exactly what happens because the parents are known for being right.
The children begin to worry about the parent’s habits and forget about studies and passing classes, they believe in looking out for their parents because as the parent smokes they become violent and begin to hit the child for no apparent reasons. Just smoking a regular cigarette can lead to the use of marijuana and even cocaine. An average person will not go straight to smoking hard drugs; they will begin with a packet of cigarettes. Depressants, steroids, heroine, stimulants, marijuana, tobacco and etc. are all extreme drugs that affect the body in many ways.
These drugs affect the body physically and emotionally. Physically, the eyes will become red; they will have a lasting cough, fatigue and complaints about health issues. Emotionally, their personality changes, they become irritable, irresponsible, depressed, etc. The drug abuser will begin arguing with his/her family about little things and they will start disobeying them also. When a person starts using drugs their school interests begin to drop and so do the grades; they will begin to skip classes and eventually end up doing deviant behaviors.
Telling a drug abuser to quit smoking a drug is impossible, asking someone to quit smoking by itself is impossible. There are plenty of ways to relieve stress and to change the world from what it is now to the way we want it to be. It is our outlook that keeps us from being who we are or what we can be. It is not just the everyday teenagers who are having difficulties but also the poor and homeless. Because the homeless do not have much communication with others, they believe in getting involved with drug dealers so they can earn money no matter what the circumstances are.
They are helpless and are willing to anything to keep them from breaking down. There are plenty of broken down houses or abandoned business areas and workplaces; these types of areas are considered to be a highly rated area for teen pregnancy, infant mortality and of course drug use. These types of areas began to break down after the war on poverty and even though we as Americans tried fixing these issues, we failed. It is sad to see that the world has come down to drug dealing for money, but if that is the way that people need to survive, so be it.
It is not fair that they have to suffer because no one is willing to help them land on their feet, nor is it there fault that they have no relatives to look out for them. It is the community’s responsibility to look out for all these types of issues. If we don’t help each other, how will we survive? The community should spread word about drugs more and make sure that there are no drugs in sight of any children because they get influenced easily. Drugs are commonly used to relieve stress however when the drugs are used, the individuals emotions are so unbalanced that they will enclose more stress into their bodies.
Drugs however are not only used by those who are homeless but also those who work in top class jobs such as law offices. There are times when an employee begins taking drugs that they start to take on extra tasks and aren’t able to handle them all at once. They still insist on working hard because they believe that as they work more not many of the other associates will realize that they are using drugs. Moreover, the employees who use drugs start coming in late to work and become frustrated easily, leaving them with a short temper and a high heart rate.
Violence is highly risky when dealing with drug abusers. They believe that for every little fight there should be a fist toss for the one who believes them to be right. This can lead to major arguments and irresponsible acts. When a drug user is being violent at most times they don’t believe that they are being violent, they think that they are acting normal. As the blood pressure rises the temperature rises and that becomes hard to deal with especially for the person who has to deal with the violence being practiced on them.
They claim that living without drugs is impossible however if a person is really addicted they might even commit suicide if they can’t get the drugs that they need. Let’s talk about our government and what affects they have on the drug use in our country. The government so far has had a “War on Drugs” which is a campaign used to eliminate drug use. The billions of dollars spent yearly on the war on drugs should be reallocated to more industrious, less disciplinary anti-drug campaigns, such as education, drug prevention programs, and counseling.
Such policies would not have short-term results, but would, in the long run, be more valuable to the communities, families, and individuals currently wrestling with drugs, getting them out of poverty, rather than into prisons. Ever since the year of 1968, the United States spent superior amounts of money trying to stop drug use through the justice system. The total money loss so far comes to over 40 billion dollars per year. Three-fourths of the anti-drug money goes to police force, prisons, border patrols, and foreign prohibition efforts. The remaining one-fourth of the budget goes to prevention and treatment measures.
The war on drugs caused far more harm to the community than the drugs itself, the loss of money, lack of education, lack of communication has brought the poverty down in the United States. Another reason why drug users affect the whole community including family and friends are because a lot of the values that come from the past generations are passed on to the next. Children from the age of 1, even earlier, begin to watch television for entertainment. Even though the child is only 1 or even 2, they will catch on quickly about drugs and see what people are doing with them.
As the child becomes a teenager they begin to follow the footsteps of movie stars and singers. If a movie star smokes, the child will think that because they are famous, they can smoke anything they like without understanding the consequences. These types of issues are being researched on because television now and days influences a child before the parents can. As a child watches television they begin to think how easy it is to be famous without thinking about the hard work that we have to put into getting there.
Drugs are being abused everyday by all ages and are becoming stronger; they need to be learned about in school and just so the kids in the classrooms understand what the teacher is trying to say, the student should be able to watch a movie on it showing all the harmful effects of it. In my opinion, any illegal drugs should not be imported by any means. If a drug is imported from another area, the people across the border should be sent to jail. We have learned that in the past couple years that drugs are a bad influence because it causes violence and it causes the wrong type of communication with others.
Drugs should either be banned from all countries or turned into medication after studying it and its effects. The world is easily influenced by famous people and I strongly believe that if a famous person is caught smoking any illegal type of drug they should permanently be banned from any public television shows; however, if they need to come on public television after being banned from making movies or videos, they should be able to come on television just to talk about their mistakes with drug usage.
As the world introduces technology to further instinct, they are giving ideas to people across the nation about how easily they can transport drugs and receive them. These types of machinery and tools should be kept to a minimum with the insiders and outsiders not knowing what they are capable of doing with them. It is not only those across the border who are sending drugs but it is also the people in the United States who are accepting them. We are so busy trying to find cures for diseases and infections but we aren’t giving our full attention to the use of drugs.
I believe we went over every possibility on why, who and how drug use affects the community. If a person needs help with a drug issue and does not how to solve it they need to get psychiatric help and if they aren’t willing to talk to a stranger they should talk to a family member or even a close friend before they do something they will regret. Smoking drugs and/or sniffing them is easy and may be fun however, there are consequences with using them and sharing them with others. The people taking drugs should try to help themselves before they can try to help someone else with any problem.
Stress is no reason for taking drugs unless the person has no other way to go except for that. Stress is common in all ages and sizes no matter how perfect their life might be because we always try to be better than what we are. We try to succeed in things no matter how much effort and work we have to put into it. Working hard and trying to be the best is hard so people stress over it however, smoking is not going to solve the stress. Psychiatric help is the best way to go when dealing with such issues.
