Destiny or Free Will

The word choice is used frequently in todays society. Many people confuse choice and control. How much power does one actually have? Can one choose what will happen at work? Or does life control what will occur? This question has befuddled the human race from the beginning of time. One of mans oldest practices is incorporated with these two ideas. This practice is religion. It seems as if the human race was created on this planet to ask questions. One of the biggest questions to this day is the existence Destiny, or free will?

Is one created to follow a certain route in life or does one choose where he/she will lead life? People have been trying to come up with an answer for this for centuries but were unsuccessful. Personally, I believe in Destiny. I feel that everyones life is preplanned and controlled by a higher power. One cannot control where their life will lead them or when they will die. Fate cannot be avoided or fooled. No matter what one does fate takes control. People say he beat the sickness with his mind. I disagree with that statement.

After all, no man fights off death with his mind(Oedipus Rex, page 11). If one was able to choose what they wanted to do, there would be no poverty and everyone in the world would be a millionaire. Obviously that is not the case in the world today. Choice and control are completely different things. It is almost as if one was trying to compare a democracy with a monarchy. People never really have a choice, and if we did the world would be a terrible place to live in. There would be no differences, competition, need to excel, reason to advance and most importantly no reason to live.
