The desire to engage in cocaine use may lead an individual to consume up to 10,000 or more micrograms of cocaine daily. These figures are comparable to many of the effects that a person may experience from drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. Cocaine addiction may persist even when the user consumes alcohol to the same extent and at the same time, and can persist for years unless the person discontinues use entirely.
The desire for cocaine can cause the person to feel extremely euphoric, which is the result of increased self-esteem and, thus, higher levels of dopamine in the brain. This can lead to the person creating intense experiences of ecstasy (Ecstasy) and other “high” drugs. In addition, the desire to use cocaine can lead users to become very anxious. The person will go on frequent, high-intensity, emotional highs from which they will often feel a sense of relief.
