Today in humanity, gay parenting and marriage has become publicly accepted by some and rejected by others. Many have come to believe this topic to be immoral and impossible. Society has also realized that the average family has developed into many different forms in the last few years. Gay families have developed and are perceived today that raising kids without both a Mom and Dad, deprives the child from being introduced to both worlds. The approach to this debated topic will be to analyze and to defend the “cons” of gay parenting and marriage.
Ever since the beginning of creation, God made man and woman to reproduce and create humanity. God never in between allowed or said that same sex marriage was permissible or was the natural way to create a generation. For example in Genesis chapter 19 the story of Sodom and Gomorrah explained the wickedness of the city that mainly strived from homosexuality. Genesis 19:5- And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us that we may know them. The city’s perverseness made God infuriated and led to the destruction of that city turning it into fire and brimstone.
This gives evidence that homosexuality is a religious sin, which is analogous to many other Biblical prohibitions, like committing adultery which transgresses ethics. According to the Bible, Deuteronomy 32:46- And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. It is impossible to raise children when both parents are the same sex because it isn’t natural and goes against biblical standards.
In addition, children won’t have the example from their parents to do different than they do and make better decisions that please God. Some issues that are argued on the topic of gay parenting is that gay parenting is no different from heterosexual parenting. ” Many studies have stated this, but, according to University of Chicago’s professor of ethics and social sciences Don Browning, none of these studies were absolute. Other studies show that children raised by homosexuals were more unhappy with their own gender, had more frequent homosexual experiences , and endured a greater rate of molestation by family members (CT).
Societies, both gay and straight, view gay parenting as assuming that heterosexual bonding is a given of nature for straight people. Many argue though that this is a matter of fundamental importance. The only purpose of gay marriage is to increase the emotional gratification of two adults. Most of society argues this, and defends their argument that there is no substance or worth to a same-sex marriage because it can’t produce a family naturally and goes against what is looked at as normal in humanity. If children have the right to do anything, it would be to begin life with a mother and father.
Death, divorce, abandonment, – any one of these takes away the existence of a mother or father in a childs life. But only same-sex marriage would confirm that children are deprived from birth of either a mother or a father. Now a days, many same-sex advocates are arguing that children do not do better with a mother and a father. To support this theory, they continue to ask, “Where are the studies” that prove children do better with a father and a mother? Not only are there no such studies, they claim, but in fact, “studies show” that children raised with parents of the same sex do just as well as children raised by a father and a mother.
This statement is completely false because recent studies have shown that children growing up with same sex parents will experience more difficulties in finding their sexual identity than compared to heterosexual children. Also they have come to prove that same-sex kids are more apt to mental breakdowns, behavior problems, or would be less psychologically healthy than others (APA). Children of gays and lesbians are very susceptible to get harassed and teased during their time of maturing. Many therapists educate the parents on how life for their children will be more difficult and not an easy road.
The therapists prepare them for the problems that they will face and encourage the family to have a plan to deal with society’s attitude towards them. In custody cases involving a gay or lesbian parents, courts have considered the fact that a child may be teased as conflicting to the best interests of the child. They argue that the disgrace attached to having a gay or lesbian parent will also damage a child’s self-esteem. This has been argued in many studies (FRC). Now in today’s law and constitutional rights, there have been many legal changes among the gay marriage issue.
Massachusetts became the first state to approve gay marriage licenses. Other states involved in permitting these licenses are San Francisco, California; New Paltz, New York; Asbury Park, New Jersey; and Sandoval County, New Mexico. On the contrary, a form of gay marriage has been legal in Denmark since 1989 (full marriage rights except for adoption rights and church weddings, and a proposal now exists in the Danish parliament to allow both of those rights as well), and most parts of Scandinavia were not long after involved (Mercury).
Most of society is increasingly opposing the gay rights and are frowning upon the decisions that the states are making. If you allow gay people to marry each other, you no longer support and encourage their thoughts towards another liking or attraction, with who they most often cannot relate sufficiently to and bringing innocent children into already seriously stressed marriages. By allowing gay marriage, you would reduce the number of opposite-sex marriages that end up in the divorce courts.
If it is the stability of the institution of heterosexual marriage that worries you, then consider that no one would require you or anyone else to participate in a gay marriage. You would still have freedom of choice, of choosing which kind of marriage to participate in — something more than what you have now (CSM). And speaking of divorce — to argue that the institution of marriage is worth preserving at the cost of requiring involuntary participants to remain in it is a better argument for reforming divorce laws than proscribing gay marriage.
President Bush is supporting the efforts to legally ban gay marriage and encourages patience of this situation. Republicans have now attempted to promote the discriminatory Federal Marriage Amendment. Many opposing gays in the government have frowned upon same-sex unions and called it a “national crisis. ” They’ve even criticized the American family by saying that they’re inadequate. In many cases, even with well written wills and strong characteristics of attorney have proven to not be enough even if a family wishes to argue the will or exclude us from a funeral or deny us the right to visit a partner’s hospital bed or grave of gay couples.
There are many examples of this, even in many cases where the gay couple did everything right according to what had to be done about the situation and still the couple were treated unfairly. It shows that even legally and in civil rights, the rules are different when gay couples are the ones facing the issues (FirstTH). There are many of those in society that have their reasons for opposing the whole gay marriage scene. The real reasons for behind it is people aren’t comfortable with the idea, it goes against everything religion stands for, marriage is sacred, gay sex is unnatural, and they may recruit.
Societies have long recognized that permitting certain activities to take place in particular groups can offend the majority. But because of this reason, laws were established. Half a century ago, gay marriage and gay families were un- thought of. But today, no one sees this as a problem, especially the media and the celebrity spotlight. As for marriage being sacred, the state takes the role of sanctifying the marriage as a fundamental idea. The whole idea of the state running gay marriage goes against the grain and makes heterosexual marriage insecure about their religion and unity. Another reason is because gay sex is unnatural.
Sex is only supposed to be for the opposite sex for when they were united as one. This is considered to be a gift from God to man and shouldn’t be abused by transforming it into something immoral by switching to the same sex. Then lastly, talks about gay and lesbians recruiting straight people to become gay. Although many may believe this to be true, it is highly unlikely and that unproven fear is often used by extremists to scare people into opposing gay rights in general, as well as gay marriage. Overall, the basis and thought of gay marriage and parenting is disgusting and is a moral sin.
Society, law, and religion all point to the negative outlook that gay marriage can have on children. Also we need to remember the feelings of those who are in those situations, even if they are proud of what they stand for. Still God looks down on this and sees the same thing he saw in Soddom and Gomorra. This is why many disagree with the topic because of the good amount of our nation is some type of Christianity that sets those boundaries. As we have seen, the arguments against gay marriage don’t stand it’s ground next to close analysis. Neither the arguments that are presented or the real feelings.
