Kashmir was once part of the Mughal Empire, and it was also the site of a great battle between the Hindu god Shiva and the demon king Ravana. Today, Kashmir is home to many Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs, and it is a popular tourist destination.

There are many other beautiful places worth visiting in India such as Leh-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim etc. Each place has something unique to offer in terms of scenic beauty, historical legacy or religious importance. So, it really depends on an individual’s interests as to which place he/she finds more beautiful.
I’ve been to a lot of historical and tourist attractions. However, the visit that has stayed with me is my trip to Kashmir. It is said to be the planet’s most gorgeous location. It has earned the title “The Switzerland of India.” To see the breathtaking beauty of Kashmir, I was wonderstruck.

Shiva, also known as Mahadeva, is one of the principal deities of Hinduism. He is the supreme god within Shaivism, one of the major traditions within contemporary Hinduism. Shiva is known as “The Destroyer” within the Trimurti, the Hindu trinity that includes Brahma and Vishnu. In Shaivism tradition, Shiva is also seen as the transcendent supreme being. Shiva temple architecture has many regional varieties, often related to specific totem animals like Nandi bulls in South India or Lingam in Tamil Nadu.
The Mughal Empire was an empire in the Indian subcontinent, which originated in 1526. It was established and ruled by a Muslim dynasty of Chagatai Turco-Mongol origin from Central Asia. The Mughal Empire extended over large parts of the Indian subcontinent and Afghanistan. The empire reached its maximum extent under Akbar the Great, who reigned from 1556 until his death in 1605. On 29 October 1529, Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodi, the last Sultan of Delhi at Panipat, thus founded the Mughal Empire that lasted for more than three centuries.

Kashmir is also known as the ‘land of Shiva’. Lord Shiva is considered to be the main deity of Kashmir. There are many temples and shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva in Kashmir. The most famous among them is the Amarnath Cave Temple which is situated at an altitude of 3,888 m above sea level.
Kashmir has been ruled by many dynasties like the Mauryas, Kushanas, Guptas, Mughals and the Sikhs. The Mughal rulers were great patrons of art and architecture. They built many forts, palaces and gardens in Kashmir. The Mughal Gardens at Nishat and Shalimar are world-famous.
The people of Kashmir are very hospitable. They are known for their handicrafts like carpets, shawls and woodwork. Wazwan is the traditional feast of Kashmiri people which is very popular among tourists.
