Analysis Of Lamb To The Slaughter By Mary Maloney Essay

“Human beings, we have darkside’s; we have dark issues in our lives. To progress anywhere in life you have to face your demons” was once said by famous actor John Noble about Human beings. This is true in life and Literature. For example, Mary Maloney from “Lamb to the Slaughter” a house wife who loves her husband but he thinks differently, or Vera from And then there Were None who was invited and hired to be a secretary but would figure out later what she was really in for, or Hannah from “The Perfects“ who was just babysitting some odd children but then got in lots of trouble.

Vera , Hannah and Mary struggled to face their demons. Hannah, from “The Perfects”, had struggled to face her Demons. First, Hannah had to face the Perfects dark side because she was just babysitting, but then figured out she was not there just to babysit. when Hannah turned around from being pushed into the cage she saw the whole perfect family including a familiar one year old baby”(Allison 88). After seeing the Perfects they explained to her that they had been killing people more than once and they use the baby to lure her.

Second, Hannah had to face not only the perfect dark side but now she has to get out of the cage she is stuck in. After seeing the Perfects and getting stuck in a cage, Hannah realized There was a baby outside of the cage holding the key, so she thought” Kids what you never know what they’re going to do”(Allison 90). At this point Hannah is trying to get out and by doing so she will maybe try to lure the baby to get to her and give her the keys. In conclusion, Hannah connects to the quote because she had to face the dark side of the perfect and to try and get out but truggled to face her demons because we don’t know if she got out or not.

To add on, Vera, from And then there Were None, fails to face her Demons. First, because of all the killing and the insanity very freaked out took the gun from Lombard and shot him dead. Severa stole the gun from Lombard I could not wait but “Automatically Vera pressed the trigger” (Christie 264). this proves my Claim because she had a dark issue from all the killing so she felt it was kill or be killed but had completely messed up.

Secondly, when Vera was not sane she had a hallucination that her boyfriend Hugo wanted her to commit suicide by hanging herself she went up to her room where there was already a hook and a rope connected to the ceiling. When she was in there she thought,” A rope with a noose already? And a chair to stand upon- a chair that could be kicked away… That was what Hugo wanted… “(Christie 268). this shows that Vera, out of insanity had tried to face her demon but failed and hung herself. In conclusion, Vera has failed to face her demons and committed suicide.

Finally, Mary Maloney, from “Lamb to the Slaughter”, had successfully had defeated her demon. First, Mary Maloney had killed her husband because he wanted to divorce. In anger Mary got a leg of lamb from the freezer and after hearing the news of wanting a divorce, Mary acted fast with disapproval, and so” she swung the leg of lamb high and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head”(Dahl 3). This proves that Mary defeated her demons and had not wanted a divorce so she took matters into her own hands.

Second after killing her husband should found a successful and creative way to hide the crime. after killing her husband she decided to cook the leg of lamb so she “… placed it in a pan and turned on the oven on high and shoved it inside. “(Dahl 4) What’s my reason because Mary killed her husband and couldn’t deal with the fact that she was going to jail for those acts, so she covered up the crime and successfully defeated her demon. In conclusion, Mary had successfully defeated her demons and was able to progress in life.

Without a doubt Hannah, Vera, and Mary had all struggled to face their demons. all of the problems were similar because they all showed a problem that was hard to get out because there were either killings or they got stuck in the process of facing their demons. “Human beings, we have darkside’s; we have dark issues in our lives. To progress anywhere in life you have to face your demons” was once said by famous actor John Noble and this is true in both life and literature.
