Many people believe it to be immoral and even murder, however the definition of abortion is “the termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo before viability. The important part of the definition is that it is before viability, therefore the fetus would not be able to arrive outside of the womb, consequently it cannot be seen as murder. In many countries abortion is illegal, this is usually due to religious beliefs, such as Ireland. Despite this, many abortions are still done illegally, which also means unsafely. Out of approximately 42 million abortions that occur every year, nearly half are performed dangerously and illegally. Over 70 thousand women die due to unsafe abortions a year.
Surely a woman’s life is more important than an unborn, undeveloped fetus? If a woman who was violently raped and then became pregnant with the rapist’s hill, do you think she would want to keep the child, that she would painfully have to bring up, reminding her of the horrific event that happened? Or if a fifteen year old girl fell pregnant because she wasn’t aware of the consequences and couldn’t physically or financially have a baby, do you think she would want to bring a child into the world where it may not have a good life?
These are Just two of a long list of issues that may occur for someone to want an abortion. My friend, who was 16, fell pregnant with her 17-year-old boyfriend, who were both n college full-time. Therefore neither of them had a Job, which meant neither of them could afford to look after a child and support it. Due to their situation, she had an abortion.
Although it was a difficult decision for her, they both believed it was the best outcome for both them, and the child because they did not want the child to have to live in poverty. You would have to be ruthless to not be able to sympathies with someone in this situation. Another reason a woman may decide to have an abortion, is because her and/or the child’s health may be at risk. In this position, this woman may decide to have an abortion. For example, pre-pregnancy diabetes raises the risks of birth defects.
In 2008 it was reported by Donna that: “Women diagnosed with diabetes before they become pregnant are three times to four times more likely to give birth to a child with one or even multiple birth defects than a non diabetic mother, according to a study in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Genealogy’. Also if the parents are both carriers of a genetic disease and the woman falls pregnant accidentally, they ay choose to abort the fetus so it doesn’t have to live a life of suffering with a genetic disease, such as Cystic Fibrosis. Ensue it is their choice whether or not they wish to have a child or not. Just take into consideration if it was you in a position where you may have to consider abortion, like under age pregnancies, or life-threatening pregnancies whether you would have an abortion or not. What would you do if you had been raped? Before you harass or abuse a woman who has had an abortion put yourself in their position before being prejudice.
