Music has been around for thousands and thousands

Music has been around for thousands and thousands of years.
The caveman had originally started some type of sounds in which
branched off into the music that we listen to today. This prehistoric
music was started by the cavemen in order for them to express themselves,
and the others who listened were affected in the same way that people
are affected by music today.
For example, if someone is upset they will listen to something that will
get them into a better mood, perhaps something mellow or soft. If they are happy,
they will listen to something that is more energetic, and so on. After I interviewed
four people–friends and family–I found out what type of music they listened to when
they are upset, angry, or calm. Music touches peoples souls, and gets the best or worst
out of them.

My friend Kyle said, When I am in a bad mood I listen to basically rap because
it gets me hyped up to where I want to dance. Rap lets me get into a better mood
where I can forget the problem or what I was mad at before. He continues, No other
music affects me as much as rap does because rappers put everything they have into their
songs, but that is only my opinion. Kyle has listened to rap since he was 13, and he
actually got me interested into it. I never liked rap until I started to hang out with
him, and I am now starting to enjoy it because of its diversity that is involved in
making the music. Each rapper has their own version of the world, and they express it
through their music.

-2-
Not all rap music is good according to a Texas widow, who filed a lawsuit against Tupac
Shakur. Her husband, a Texas state trooper, was allegedly shot to death by a man who stole
a car. In the mans car a Tupac tape was found in the cassette player, and
Tupacs music was allegedly to blame (Damean). Some people tend to take music too seriously,
and end up making mistakes, and they have to suffer the consequences like that Texas man.
Those people, who take the music too seriously, are not stable, and the music brings out
the worst of them. On the other hand, people like Kyle have no problem with some of the
lyrics that some rappers incorporate into their music, and end living happily with society.
I asked Kyles roommate, Tim what type music he listens to when he is in certain moods.
He said, Sometimes when I am homesick I listen to Frank Sinatra because my mother and
father listen to it all the time, so it reminds me of them. He is also a big rap
fan, but not as much as Kyle. Tim can listen to anything at any time, for instance,

he could listen to Notorious BIG one minute then listen to Marilyn Manson the next.
He continues, If I have the urge to get pumped up then I need something that is crazy
and wild to get me in that mood, like White Zombie or some sort of heavy music.
There have also been lawsuits involved with such heavy metal like Marilyn Manson, Ozzy
Osbourne, Slayer, and Judas Priest. Marilyn Mansons music had been to blame for the
suicide of 13 year-old boy from California. Another family from California sued the
band Slayer because their lyrics inspired three teenage boys to rape and murder their
daughter. Ozzy Osbourne and Judas Priest had lawsuits filed against them claiming their
lyrics drove teens to attempt suicide in the late 80s, but the cases were won by the artists
-3-
(Demean). Once again people or teenagers took the music too seriously, and they ended making
stupid mistakes by doing so.
These teenagers are allowed to listen to such music at an early age when they look up to

certain entertainers like–Marilyn Manson. These teenagers need role models, and they end
up looking the wrong way when they should be idolizing baseball and football players. They
are at the crucial age when they are looking for a direction in life while trying to find
themselves in the process. These teenagers think that they are supposed to listen to every
word they sing, and they end up taking them seriously by acting upon those words. The teenagers,
who take it seriously and act on it, are insecure looking for someone to lead them through
life, and end going to the wrong person for help when they should be going to an adult, or
a positive role model for help.

I asked my mother what she listens to and what she feels when she listens to it. She said,
I like to listen to classical music after a hard days work because it soothes me to a
point where my mind is free from all of the stress that is involved in my job. My mom is
an accountant where she works with numbers all day long, and that can get annoying by looking
at the same sheet of numbers for hours at a time. My mom recently began listening to country
music, and I asked her why she recently switched. She responds, I needed a change from the
regular music that I normally listen to. I like it because the lyrics of some songs are quite
deep, and I could relate to some of the stories that are incorporated in the songs. The songs
make me feel free, and I need that after a hard days work.

The History of Music

Throughout history all cultures have been influenced by music. Since the Baroque period music
has evolved and changed to meet the needs of the composers, listeners and of the culture as
well. Ever since the monolithic chant of the previous millennia the western musical tradition
been a mirror to the turmoil and the triumph in the European society. Influenced by religion,
nationalism, geography, living conditions, imperialism, pragmatics, social mores, traditions,
etc western music has evolved into a mighty being that still will endure for centuries.
Before the Baroque era in music there were many forms of western music. Most of this music was
monophonic, sung in chant used mostly for religious purposes. During the previous millennia
most music was sung in chant form with very little accompaniment, save a harp or a violin.
In these times music was a simple art, sung by the people to praise the Lord. Eventually
polyphonic music developed, first starting as monophonic chant sung in thirds and fifths,
and later contrapuntal music was created. During this time the music notation system was
standardized, originally a modified Greek system; music notation evolved into the notation
that is used today. Having the use of music notation set the foundation for Baroque music
and for all music after that.

In the late sixteenth century and early seventeenth century the Baroque style of music
started in Italy. Italy, where the renaissance started, was able to create a new type of
music rich in feeling, but less intricate than much of the previous renaissance music that
was centered towards the north (France and the area now occupied by the Netherlands). New
ideas, like interplay between the various instruments in an orchestra, became prevalent,
unlike the monophonic music of previous years. As new instruments were incorporated into
orchestras and compositions became increasingly more instrumental interplay had an increasing
new role in the new baroque music. Claudio Monteverdi was a pioneer in the field of music at
this time. His new operas contained many instances on interplay and sudden contrasts in feeling. As the seventeenth century progressed base parts in music became increasingly more important as the new basso continuo, idea formed. In the basso continuo soprano and alto voices in the music would be constructed on a platform of bass chords that gave meaning and structure to the music.

During the Baroque period new forms of presenting music were invented. The cantata and
oratorio were created as new forms of vocal pieces. Both of these forms had repeating phrases
that structured the pieces with minimal orchestral accompaniment. New forms of music were
written in continuous contrapuntal form with no distinguishable movements, the most famous
of which was the fantasia. Other forms such as the sonata had many homophonic and
contrapuntal movements that contrasted witheach other. There were many pieces that were
a theme and variations called a passacaglia. The concerto was a solo instrument that played
against an orchestra that differed on many musical, rhythmical and dynamic levels. The
concerto was one of the most important forms of music that came out of the Baroque period.
During the Baroque period there were many new influential composers. These composers included
the Italian composers Alessandro Scarlatti, Arcangelo Corelli Domenico Scarlatti, and Antonio
Vivaldi; the German composers Heinrich Schtz and Dietrich Buxtehude; the Italian-Frenchman
Jean Baptiste Lully; the English composers Henry Purcell; and the French composer Jean Philippe
Rameau.

Towards the end of the century, music became more fluid and romanticized. The ideas of
contrasting movements gave way to pieces that more or less the same general musicality and
character all the way through. Towards the end of the Baroque period, the great composer
J.S. Bach shined and wrote some of the best Baroque pieces ever written, still Baroque in style,
but giving way to the new classical period.

During the mid eighteenth century there was a reaction to the Baroque style of music.
People were tired of the ridged counterpoint that governed the baroque music. Instead
new composers chose to compose a new form of music that was happy and jubilant to mirror
the times of great exploration and hope for European society. New music, like the rococo
written by the French composer Franois Couperin showed the new jubilance in music. This
new music was broken into several contrasting movements with different conversations and
phrase. Music became more like a happy dance during this period. During the classical
period tonality was brought to new heights. New complex harmonic textures were used that
facilitated the use of new tones and chords within a key.

Like in the Baroque era, the concerto and sonata were used as art forms. In the Classical
period the symphony and string quartet were added as new acceptable art forms. Most of these
forms included three or four contrasting movements that ended in a finale that brought
closure to the work, ending in the chord of the key the work was written in. As new
instruments were developed, new arrangements were written to incorporate these instruments
in new music. New compositions only for wind instruments were written at this time, a
phenomena almost unheard of in previous times.
Towards the end of the classical period the focus of new composing centered on the Viennese
classical school. Out of this new school of composing came such great composers as Franz Joseph
Hayden and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. During this time opera lost a lot of its musical intensity
and became a series of arias that showed off the singing talent of individual soloists, as
opposed of that of the whole group. This tradition would later change with the advent of the
Romantic period.

The Romantic period started in Europe as a reaction to the jubilant happiness of the classical
era. During the nineteenth century there was a lot of tension in Europe as the forces of
Nationalism and Militarism gripped Europe. There had been changes in Europe since the advent
of Classicism. There were many mighty revolutions like the one that started in France in 1789
and spread. These revolutions made for the age of liberalism vs. conservatism. These events
put a new fire into the nineteenth century and made for a new age.

One of the major musical forms of the romantic period was the Opera. German composers such as
Wagner wrote great operas with a growing emphasis on fluid orchestral parts. New romantic
operas were known to last over five hours with long, fluid and powerful lines. Many operas
written by German composers and most of the operas written by Wagner instilled German pride
and increased an ever growing feeling of nationalism and anti-Semitism.
In France opera became more sentimental and simplistic. As in Germany the focus of the opera
began to shift towards the choral and to the orchestra. Often the orchestras had large
ensembles to show the grandeur of the age. Bizet and Faure were two of the more famous French
opera composers.

In Italy the operas that were written were more marcatto and joyful. Composers such as Rossini
used much rhythmic energy, using various staccato phrases to achieve a more buoyant opera.
Later towards the end of the nineteenth century the composer Verdi made more of an orchestral
significance and wrote opera that was more fluid.

During the nineteenth century the symphony form changed a lot, teeter-tottering between
musical styles. Many people were thinking should music have a theme? This was debated
throughout the century. As the century progressed, the symphony became the predominant
form of musical expression.
The beginning of the century started out with Tchaikovskys 1812 symphony. This great feat
of romanticism by many is considered one of the centurys best works. Like many composers
of that time, his fluid and romantic tones amazed listeners.
Smetana in Mein Vaterland expressed the nationalism in Bohemia. He was one of the first
great Czeck (Bohemian) composers. In Russia, Moldovski, Rimkey-Korsekov (Arabian Knights)
and others made for a great resurgence of nationalistic pride in Mother Russia.

Great composers like Paganini, Brahms, Schubert, Sibelius and Camille Saint-Saens wrote
great virtuosi music unheard until that the time. Because of the expanding world of music,
the rules changed and fragmentation started as new great music changed the globe. The idea
that music was not just a song with themes, but more like a poem, was given by Gustav Mahler
who wrote whole boisterous symphonies showing the greatness and brevity of the human soul,
all with no rhyme or reason to it. Towards the end of the century composers such as Debussy
used traditional forms plus the episodic use of changes in tempi and changes in thematic
character. The beginning of this century was characterized by the amazing brilliance of
Stravinski in the Firebird.

Older composers like Prokliev and Stravinsky showed great change,
switching from a neo-classical style bringing chaos into their music after the war. Newer
composers like the German Gustav Holst showed great chaos in their music by using strong,
fragmented rhythms and dissident harmonies. Great Composers like Bartk introduced folk
elements into music. Shostocovich brought the disunity of music to new heights, while
commenting musically on his countrys political and economic situation during and after
World War II. After the war, new ideas like minimalism lead by Glass and Reich and
electronic music lead by Stockhausen, have pervaded into classical music, pushing the
classical world to new boundaries.

In conclusion, western classical music has evolved since its beginnings in the previous
millennia. This music has changed from dainty harmonies to raucous twelve-tone melodies.
The music of the Western world has been influenced by and has changed the world as we
know it.

Modern Music

Music has been around for thousands and thousands of years. The caveman had originally started
some type of sounds in which branched off into the music that we listen to today. This

-4-
I am not a country fan, and I often cringe when I hear it, but my mom was the same way,
and she now listens to country. I guess in time my view will change because as I get
older I will look everywhere for a new kind of sound that will catch my ear. Most people
go through their stages of music as their get older, and I am in between rap and alternative.
While my mother is in between country and classical, but it depends what kind of mood we are
in is when we turn to one or the other.
The fourth person that I interviewed was my sister. I asked the same question as the above
three. She said, It depends because one week is different from the next. I will buy a new
CD, and listen to it until I am sick of it then I move on to the next artist. When I am
feeling depressed I listen to the Verve or Dave Matthews because the songs are calmer and
soothing, so I can calm down, and enjoy life. She concludes, When I am in a happy mood
I like to listen to anything that is on the radio because I do not know what is coming on
next, and I like being surprised.

I asked myself the same question, and I know that I cannot live without music. I like to
come home after class, lie down, and mellow out to some Pink Floyd or Pearl Jam. If I do
not listen to my music for a day then I would not consider it a complete day. Music is
the only thing that I consider mine, and nobody can take that away from me.
Everybody should feel the same way as me because there are certain things that people
like to keep to themselves, and music is one of popular things that people tend to keep
from other people, but that is only my opinion. To some it is just sitting down, reading
your favorite book, but I like to lie down, and just contemplate about what I am
going to do in life. Pink Floyd really makes me consider about life in general
because their music is
-5-
so deep. I have been depressed for a month now, and music is the only thing that I can
turn to in order to get relief. People have tried to talk to me about it, but nobody
understands that I just need to be left alone with my music, and that music is my only
remedy.
Music is a beautiful thing. People need to realize that music can solve many problems,
and many people, like me, turn to music to get relief or release stress. Music can
touch everybodys soul, and release the pain that somebody might have about a loved
one or just life in general. If you go to a concert, you will see people dancing to
the music, and getting in tune with the rhythm – like a flower waving in the breeze,
or a tree swaying in the wind. It is our human nature to dance to music, and respond
to what we hear by acting out our feelings through music. You can go anywhere and see
this; no matter if you are at a concert or a fraternity party, you will see people
expressing themselves.

Music can also cause a lot of problems too, like the ones I mentioned above. People
need to respect it for that quality because it is able to affect people in every way
imaginable. It is hard to explain exactly why humans love music the way they do, but
it is an art form that we have been creating since the dawn of man. We will continue
to explore the wonders of music and explore new ways to produce it while being affected
by it at the same time.

———————————————————————————————

Classical music is important for many reasons. However before the benefits of classical
music can be brought to light, it is important to clarify what “classical music” really is.
There are many misconceptions on what classical music is. The name “classical music” is
applied to the Viennese Classical expression, which flourished in the late 18th century,
and early 19th do to the brilliance of three main composers. Hayden, Mozart, and Beethoven
were the three brilliant minds that are credited for the classical music period. Some musical
characteristics of classical music are: the use of energetic and orchestral color in a
thematic way, the use of rhythm, including periodic structure and harmonic rhythm, to give
definition to large-scale forms, along with the use of modulation to build longer spans of
tension and release (most of the music is cast in sonata form or closely related forms),
and the witty, typically Austrian mixture of comic and serious strains. The importance of
classical music can be seen in many different things. For example it has been proven to help
the mind, it is also yet another way of expression, and it can also be used as therapy.

One of the most intriguing benefits of classical music is how it helps stimulate the brain.
In many child development studies, research has shown very positive effects on the child’s
brain by just listening to classical music. The research has demonstrated that auditory
stimulation (listening to classical music) at an early age can increase the rate of development
of synaptic connections in a young mind. By increasing the synaptic connection, intelligence is
also increased. “Music, particularly classical music, stimulates the frontal and prefrontal
portions of the brain that perform analytical functions.” Stated Professor Gordon Shaw from
the University of California-Irvine.

Many doctors for therapeutic reasons also use classical music. The reasons can be anything
from trauma to nightmares. It seems strange that classical music can have such a big effect.
However the doctors say that it clears the mind, helps focusing, and also is very relaxing.
It is a great stress reliever and a great way to express emotions. The expression of emotions
allows people to open up. For people that have been in traumatic situations opening up is
the first step to healing. Classical music opens up options to doctors that might have been
really hard to get to.
Classical music is also a great entertainment it is one of the most popular forms of musical
entertainment today. Many people enjoy listening to the brilliance of the composers of the
classical period. They enjoy listening to music that in some aspects was ahead of its’ time.
Some people say they not only enjoy the performance, but also the atmosphere of a classical
music concert. It is a formal concert where people sit and just absorb great music.
Classical music is a creative expression, which many artists are using today. Coolio used a
little bit of classical music in one of his songs. I think that new artist are using classical
music to express themselves in a new way.

The artists that are beginning to use classical
music are trying to make great music like the original composers once did. I think that the
more the artist use classical music the more the artist express his desire to expand their
musical talent. It is also a sign of maturity. It is a sign of maturity because once people
have settled down they can appreciate everything that went into classical music. It is also
a sign of maturity because it takes patients to really understand the music, and people have
more patients when they are a bit maturer.

Personally classical music has never really interested me. However learning more about the
history and what the music means has made me respect the music more. I am not saying that
I am going to listen to the music but I won’t say I hate it because I don’t. I think that
it isn’t a type of music that interests me because I am the type of person that likes thing
a little plain and simple and classical music is a little to complicate. The thing that
interests me about classical music is the effect it has on young children. It is something
that I might have my children listen to at a young age. At this point and time in my life
I don’t particularly have an interest in this music and I think it might be because I have
been brought up listening to other types of music.

The importance of classical music in my opinion is whatever importance you personally take
out of it. It may make you more intelligent or more relaxed it really all depends on your
personality. I have learned if at first you may not think that classical music is important,
give it a chance it will grow. And you will soon get a new respect for it. The importance of
classical music has helped develop many cultures and ways of life.

Global Music

The global perspective of music: we live in an increasingly smaller global village.
With advance in worldwide transportation and communication and with increasingly mobile
societies, it seems not only appropriate but also necessary to develop a global perspective
of music. A global perspective of music is a sense of the lifestyles, traditions, values
and the music of several nations and cultures throughout the world. An awareness of the
diversity within our national boundaries that has contributed significantly and beneficially
to the cultural richness of our land.

The diversity of musical styles that exist in the United States includes Western European
classical music (art music) and a number of popular music styles derived largely from
Western European ways of making music. These styles include pop, folk, country, and rock.
Other styles, including jazz, blues, and various ethnic music, are the result of a blending
of cultures and traditions. All these styles constitute an important part of music in
American society, styles that constitute American music.

The ethnic diversity: part of the cultural richness of our nation is derived from its ethnic
diversity and its large number of ethnic groups. Immigrant groups may have partially
assimilated into the mainstream of our society while retaining the songs, dances, instruments,
languages (at least accent and inflection), fashion, food, and lifestyles of their native
cultures. In many cases, the merging of cultural traditions has formed new styles and modes
of behavior. For example, jazz evolved in the early twentieth century.
Music is vocal or instrumental sounds having melody, rhythm, or harmony. Also, music is sound
that you want to hear as music, sound that is not organized in some fashion typically cannot
be called music. Yet the roar of a waterfall, the sound of rain falling on a tent or the
chirping of birds can sense but as pleasing, and these perhaps as musical, sounds. In fact,
the sounds of birds, water, and whales and other sounds of nature have been taped and used in
organized music. Conversely, all sorts of drum, cymbals, and gongs; harsh dissonant
harmonics; and abstract, totally unsingable melodies have been organized into music.
Artistic qualities of Music: music maybe folk art, high art, or at any place in this
continuum. Much music has attributes of both. High art includes the classical music of
the Western European cultivated tradition. It also includes the classical music of other
cultures.

Great music, regardless of styles, lasts. It can have universal appeal; may be remembered
through decades, generations, and perhaps centuries; and has a degree of substance that
challenges the listener and the performer. A great piece of art music encourages repeated
listening, performance, and study. With repeated experiences, one can explore and find
subtleties of expression and depths of meaning, will not tire of it, and will continue
to find new awareness and understandings. Such characteristics are not limited to Western
European classical music, for a number of other cultures have classical music traditions,
their great masterpieces, their own high art. It can effectively be argued that
characteristics of high art music can also be found in Western vernacular music, notably,
some jazz, new age, and rock.

Music exists in all nations and among all people has existed as far back in time as we know
about people and their cultures. The musical languages, styles, and functions have differed
considerably and therefore, people in different cultures value for different reasons.
For example, music will sound different from culture to culture because social groups
or societies develop their own tastes about what sounds beautiful in music. Therefore,
they have their own musical traditions, different reasons for using music in their
communities in such involvements as their religion, recreation and entertainment,
and public gatherings. They use different instruments and have different ways of
creating music; thus; they achieve stylistic differences. They also have different
attitudes about performance practices and audience/ performer relationships.
However, all cultures have music because of its universal power to stimulate emotional

feelings and responses and the convey powerful feelings, moods, images, and associations.
Music also provides a means of communication for people who desire common identity who have
common values and aspirations.
Functional qualities of music: music has the ability to affect and change peoples feelings
and attitudes. Music is used therapeutically to help physically or mentally challenged
people. Many colleges and universities offer degrees in music therapy. Graduates from these
program work in mental health clinics, hospitals, public schools, and private practice.
Among other purposes, music therapists use music to help people of all ages improve
their self-esteem, find joy in self-expression, achieve elements of success through music,
and find better ways of interacting socially with others.
Music is also used functionally in our environment to make people feel good for
being at a particular place, as in department store, or to distract from pain or
other unpleasant association, as in a dentists chair. It is used to affect moods,
whether one desires uplifting and spirited music or quiet, relaxing, or reflective music.
Music can be used to improve feelings when alone, as may happen in an elevator or when put
on hold during a telephone call.

Music Origin

Introduction:

For centuries people had dreamed of capturing the sounds and music from the environment. Many
had attempted it but no one had succeeded until Thomas Alva Edison discovered a method of
recording and playing back sound. What had started out as an apparatus intended as part of an
improved telephone led to the development of an instrument which would change the world,
making it a happier, even a better, place to live.

Revolutions:
(Case of Mp3 sharing software development)
A revolution in the music industry has surfaced In 1999, Shawn Fanning, a Northeastern
University undergraduate, wrote a small MP3-sharing software application known as Napster.
Originally designed for the exchange of Fanning and friends’ own recordings, Napster quickly
became a conduit for mainstream MP3s, and an MP3-sharing community was built overnight as
the beta version of the shareware program quickly caught on. New songs could be found and
downloaded at the touch of a button. Entire albums could be exchanged in minutes for free.
In addition, the natal Sagittarian Sun (self) in the companys chart sextiles Mars (action)
conjunct Neptune (illusion, lack of boundaries), producing the ability to do it all anywhere
with complete anonymity.
The Recording Industry Association of America contends that the service Napster provides is
just a high-tech shortcut to music piracy. But in recent friends of the court briefs, the
Computer and Communications Industry Association, which represents tech giants like AT&T,
Yahoo and Oracle, said the courts need to reinterpret and revise some of the overprotective
models for guarding intellectual property.

Online business contributed much to the music industry as similar to the other traditional
companies. It helped the business to grow globally and to reach out the customers all over
the world. Easy access, news details, shipping to home, attractive prices, lots of choices
made the music industry to boom in the early 1990s.

Music Vs Internet:
The recorded music industry has capitulated. After years of effort and millions of dollars
spent on lawyers in prosecuting music pirates, the big four record companies have joined
the internet age.
Legal, pay-per-track music sites are about to proliferate. Australia should have its first
by Christmas. It is likely it will be a local version of the successful Apple iMusic Store,
which operates only in North America. Locally, Telstra is working on a licensing deal with at
least one record company.
The future of music sites depends on forging complex regional licensing deals between the
record companies, musicians and online vendors such as Apple, Real Networks’ Rhapsody, Roxio
(owners of Press Play and about-to-be legal Napster) and Microsoft’s MSN. Billions of dollars,
and the future of the record industry as we know it, is at stake, but the juggernaut is
rolling.
The Rolling Stones recently gave rights to their entire library to Rhapsody. Music stars
Beyonce and Avril Lavigne have done exclusive deals with Apple. John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten)
is selling on his own website, as are other mid-field and budding artists.

Stephen Peach, chief executive of the Australian Recording Industry Association, which has
been prominent in anti-piracy efforts, says prosecutions will continue but the industry
recognises the revolution and will respond.
It was the vision of Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, with his status as the great innovator of
the digital age, that broke the ice with the big four record companies, Sony Music,
EMI,BMG and Warner, and led to his dealing at the highest levels with the notoriously
myopic, not to say greedy, record business

Negative effects:

Though the internet provided a good response for the music industry to boom and reach out
the consumer there has been some negative effects. Piracy is one of the most leading negative
effects in the case of music industry. With the internet developments day by day, music sharing
illegal downloading of music and movies cost the industries a lot. Below are some of the
cases explained.
Online piracy, through sites such as Australian-owned KaZaA, Audio Galaxy, Lime wire and
Napster in its heyday, is blamed for chopping more than 10 per cent off record company
annual revenues, which are about $600 million in Australia.
“They needed some volts up their backsides and the internet gave it to them,” one veteran
music pirate says. “Most pirates are not teenagers but blokes like me in their 40s looking
for rare and esoteric stuff the big companies ignore.
“I’ve just downloaded tracks from an Abba promo disc you can’t buy. I’ve got 10 gigabytes
of music on my hard drive, most of it old ’60s and ’70s rock concept groups too drugged
out of their minds ever to have made it to the top. The big rip-off is kids bulk-copying
CDs for their friends.”
