Why the abortion controversy is often so bitter In the military we often hear the term abort the mission. In our work place we might hear that a project was aborted. In an emergency on a flight the pilot might Instruct the passengers to abort the plane. Last week I aborted my original speech for communications because I thought it was not well written. The word abortion itself is used in many circumstances in life itself and is considered Just a word.
The word abortion comes from the Latin word abortion which means to deliver prematurely. The Latin word aborts means miscarriage, premature and untimely birth. Medically, however, abortion is to end a pregnancy permanently. Thus, the birth and rise of continuous controversies. Spontaneous abortions due to complications which can be developed during any stage of a pregnancy Is an acceptable norm by both medical and norm-medical professions alike and the term miscarriage Is widely used.
It Is at the point of what is known as elective or therapeutic abortion that lines are crossed and drawn. Therapeutic abortion, which is carried out to save the mother’s life is ore accepting to most people and religion. Elective abortion, on the other hand, magnates a world of opinion. It Invokes moralistic and religious views of right and wrong. The debates and all the controversies that go along with the topic is revisited and intensified more at election times than any other.
Even though the stigma of the Issue is always around It becomes part of the forefront of the dinner table for voters during elections. People are often forced to choose If they are pro-life or pro-choice. Debaters usually use morals ethics religion and basic human rights to provoke and SSH voters to choose. Abortion was legal, with some restrictions states until 1973 the United States Supreme Court, in its Roe versus Wade decision, ruled that a woman has a right to an abortion during the first trimester of pregnancy.
A valid point one might argue. People naturally have deep and serious doubts about the morality of abortion and because of this often times they believe abortion may be the lesser of evils in some cases. Some of these cases or situations which might be thought of to justify abortion Include danger to the mother’s life, defective fetus, ape, incest, teen pregnancy, and risk to the mother’s physical or emotional health, unstable family situations, and mental retardation of the mother.
Another argument most often use to deliver support for choice is that the concept of Persephone is different from the concept of human life. A further note Is that life occurs at conception, but fertilized eggs used for in vitro fertilization are also human lives and those not implanted are routinely thrown away. This process is not viewed as murder so the argument therefore is that abortion is also not murder. Murder, according to he acceptance of abortion happens outside of the womb. Nearly all abortions take place In the first trimester, when a fetus cannot exist Independent of the mother.
As it is attached by the placenta and umbilical cord, its health is dependent on her health, and cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot exist outside her I OFF freedoms and with that is the freedom of choice. The ability of a woman to have control of her body is critical to civil rights. When forced to give up her reproductive choice one might argue that it might be a dangerous move. If the government can Orca a woman to continue a pregnancy, then the government might Just as well force a woman to use contraception or undergo sterilization.
The careful examination of this argument will hold importance to women who was unwilling participants in any conception. In the case of rape or incest, forcing a woman made pregnant by this violent act would cause further psychological harm to the victim. Often a woman is too afraid to speak up or is unaware she is pregnant. While the debaters battle with their points some people have already heard both sides but are advocates to the opposing facts as they see them and might also produce literature and beliefs as to reasons why abortion is totally off the table in any light.
In the instance of rape and incest, they might suggest that proper medical care can ensure that a woman will not get pregnant. The point of blame and consequences are made by saying abortion punishes the unborn child who committed no crime whatsoever. The punishment should be given to the perpetrator instead. Never before had a civilized society allows one human to harm another intentionally and abortion is doing Just that. Just eke in the beginning of time religion always play an important part in all societies.
There is no surprise that both sides of this controversy will undoubtedly refer to the bible as a means of support in both cases. A number of churches, including United Church of Christ, Episcopal, Presbyterian and United Methodist, do not approve of abortion as a means of birth control. However, they support the right of a woman to obtain an abortion, if she deems that is the best choice in her circumstances, and they favor keeping abortion legal. Other churches, including Roman Catholic and
Southern Baptist, oppose all abortions and favor making abortion illegal. The bible, however did not specifically mention the word abortion but many interpreters conclude what the bible intent was be mentioning several topics on human life. There are passages to show that the fetus is human and should be regarded and treated as such. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations. ” Remain 1:4-5) other passages suggest that killing a fetus is also permissible.
If men strive, ND hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follows: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the Judges determine. And if any mischief follows, then thou shall give life for life. (Exodus 21:22-23) After careful examination of the word abortion in its medical terminology and intense research of the topic I have concluded that abortion is a controversy which will continue for decades. It is hard to clearly take one side without looking and examining all facts of both sides.
Although I am not inclined to debate at length these facts or opinion of others I will prefer to be able to choose my own fate rather than be left to society to decide for me. In this light I choose freedom of choice and the ability to decide what I want my body and mind to endure. While others might decide that abortion is wrong, immoral unethical, sinful and unjust I chose to decide if that’s good for me. Ultimately we are all responsible for our self our happiness and our sanity. We choose to be fat or not. We choose to abortion or not.
