Many historians have said that the War of 1812, a war fought between the United States and Great Britain, was “senseless and insignificant”. This statement, for the most part, is not true. Without this war, many of the changes that were a result of the war, would not have taken place. The War of 1812 caused many important events to occur. These events were both direct and indirect. Although The war did not accomplish any of the things that it started out to accomplish, it became a turning point in American history.
Most of the issues that America started out fighting for disappeared shortly after the war, just bout the same time that the indirect effects of the war were beginning to become noticeable. These direct effects mainly centered around impressment and blockades, while the indirect effects dealt mainly with the rise of Andrew Jackson, William Henry Harrison, and the decline of the Federalists. Following the war, the United States was at peace with Britain. Peace gave the British no need to result in acts such as impressment, which was the capturing of American sailors.
This was one of the main issues that had enraged the Americans before the war. The British, also, no longer enforced blockades on American ships after the war. This increased American sentiment towards Great Britain again, especially in New England states due to the fact that their livelihood rested mainly in shipping. As a result of their newfound fame caused by their actions during the war, Andrew Jackson and William Henry Harrison gained respect throughout the states. Jackson, was the renowned hero of the Battle of New Orleans, and Harrison, was known for his brilliance and success in fighting the Indians.
Both Jackson and Harrison went on to become Presidents of the United States, due ainly to this newfound fame and recognition of their strengths. Both men greatly influenced the history of America as a result of their terms as President. Historians even acknowledge a historical “Age of Jackson” as part of Jackson’s contribution as Federalism waned in power and declined as an indirect result of the war. During the war, the Federalists became upset over how the war was being conducted. New England leaders, many of whom were Federalists, organized the Hartford Convention.
The purpose of the convention was to study ways in which to protest the conduct of the war. People participating in the convention, were caught by their opponents and accused of treason. Never recovering from this blow, the Federalist party declined in The main issues over which the war started, weren’t resolved during the war, but rather, after the war. Without the war though, the process of solving these problems might never have been started, and the problems might never have been solved. This made the war very significant to the United States and had a great influence on American history.
For historians to call it . ) Was the ending realistic or not? In my opinion, the ending to The Pit and the Pendulum was not realistic because more time was needed for different things to happen the way they did. When the walls started to close in on the guy being tortured, the people outside of the place he was in, were fighting in some kind of battle to get through this place to save the guy. The hot iron walls were getting closer, and closer still, until they were so close that they were starting to burn him.
Then just as the guy was about to fall into the pit that the walls were pushing him towards, the people who were outside fighting, got hrough and started to push the walls back. Just as he was about to fall in, an arm reached out and grabbed him, saving him from his treacherous death. Now, in my opinion, this all could not have happened that fast. I mean, the person could have tried to save him, but he probably wouldn’t I think that the worse torture in The Pit and the Pendulum was the physical tortures that the guy went through. Unfortunately, he had to survive. At first, he just thought that he was just being held prisoner.
Then he realized he was being watched and tortured to see how much he could survive through. They kept drugging him through the food and water that they gave him. The rats that came from down in the pit bit him,the swinging, sharp bladed pendulum that hung from a painting on the wall of father time just barely cut across his chest, the burning hot iron walls that were closing in on him and finally, the hunger and thirst that they made him suffer through were all the excruciating tortures that he had to go through. So in my opinion the physical tortures were the worse that anyone could go through.
I would like to tell you about the story of the Exodus of the Israelites. There was one man that God used in a huge way for this. His name was Moses, and he was a great and mighty man. He had many trials in his life, and his faith in God was put to the test many times. No matter what happened though, he always turned to God. That is why I want to tell you the story of his life, and of God’s quest to save the Israelites from the hand of the Egyptians. He was just a normal man, who was chosen by God to do a mighty thing. I want you to know the story of Moses so his life and his faith in God can be an inspiration to you.
Moses’ life starts out in a little house in the land One day a baby boy was born to a woman in Egypt, but at this time all of the baby boys were to be killed. this boys mothere however, hid him when he was born and kept him hidden until he was three months old. When he turned three months, his mother put him in a sealed basket, and set him afloat in the Nile, because she could no longer keep him. Meanwhile a group of people called the Israelites, were being discriminated against and being enslaved in Egypt by It was a beautiful morning, the sky was blue and clear and the sun was giving just enough heat o make everything pleasantly warm.
I sat up in bed and streched catily. The sun was streaming through my window, streching it’s rays to all the corners of my room. I got out of my bed an padded sleepily towards my window. Suddenly a loud banging came from my door, I whipped around and saw Raja, my servant, standing there breathless. “Moses! ” He shouted. “Pharoh wants you in his court now! You’re late for morning worship of the gods again. Hurry up and get down there! ” With that said he turned around and I scrambele to get dressed and ran down to Pharoh’s court. You see I’m not even Pharoh’s son, I was adopted by his daughter when I was about three months old.
She had found e floating in the river in a basket. When I was found she hired a young woman who had recently had a baby to nurse me. Then when I became old enough to be weaned she adopted me. The only thing is that since I’m not an Egyptian and not really his grandson, Pharoh despises me. I’m always getting in trouble and getting passed over in favor of my brother who is Pharohs full grandson. I got to Pharoh’s courts just in time to hear them say the final prayer, I ran quickly in and kneeled down at the edge of the room to wait for Pharoh to call on me so I could recieve my This was several years ago.
Right now I’m fleeing from Egypt and from Pharoh. Pharoh wants to kill me because I killed an Egyptian one day when I saw him beating a Hebrew. So right now I’m walking to Midian. I’ve been walking all day long and the sun is burning hot, I feel as though my skin is gooing to just catch on fire and burn right off me. I finally come to the top of a huge hill that I have been climbing forever and see a few women argueing with a bunch of shepards. I walk down closer to them and listen to the conversation. “We were hear first! ” Says the most defiant looking of the women. “Let us water our flock then you can take your turn. ”
