Daisy’s Love In The Great Gatsby Essay

What is affection? Is it when somebody is fixated on somebody to the point of doing anything for them or venerating all that they are to a state of extremes? Gatsby loves Daisy as this flawless being as opposed to a women that Gatsby really adores. He is fixed to her in her past without any of the limitations of the social world as though he loves her back when they initially met. Gatsby is not willing to admit or see that Daisy has proceeded onward with her life and he doesn’t even appear to acknowledge that she is married and has a kid and social obligations.

Gatsby thinks that he can simply be with Daisy without anybody getting mad or carrying at all. . Gatsby is stuck in a dreamlike existence with Daisy as though he ventured back in time when they initially met. Gatsby’s feeling are pure obsession because he thinks Daisy and him are deeply in love, he doesn’t notice anything around Daisy, and he doesn’t think Daisy has a real life that she is obligated to. Gatsby continues remembering and trying to relive the past and it is often to the point that he really thinks Daisy and him are back in the past and they are in love with each other.

Gatsby feels as though Daisy is in love with him as much as he is with her. It isn’t exactly ok that Gatsby doesn’t understand she has changed and he is still stuck in this limbo of a world where he can’t characterize what is the past and what is the present. Nick observes, “He had been loaded with the thought so since quite a while ago, imagined it directly through to the end, held up with his teeth set, as it were, at an incomprehensible pitch of force” (97).

It appears that Daisy causes Gatsby to go to this fantasy world that he has made in his mind because the past is he only thing about him that hasn’t changed through the span of the years after and before the war. Gatsby is so in love with Daisy to the point that he doesn’t anything around him no matter how obvious. He is most likely stuck in this lala land that he has conceived in his mind. Gatsby doesn’t notice things when he is around Daisy. There are many instances where something happens and he is so awe struck by Daisy that he cannot notice other things in his life or her life.

Gatsby doesn’t notice many things when Daisy is around as if she is some kind of infatuation drug that makes his mind go blank very often. This happens very often. Some people might call it love but I highly doubt that due to its repetitiveness and After Gatsby says hello to Nick, Nick says that the rain has stopped and Gatsby doesn’t even take too much notice to it until a few seconds after. Gatsby also gets to meet Daisy’s daughter who, first of all, Daisy doesn’t seem to interested in and on top off that, Gatsby doesn’t even think that she exists.

Gatsby is in a trance around Daisy that seems to break only when Nick talks to him and even then it takes a few seconds for Gatsby to respond in usually a reluctant and uncaring dialogue. Gatsby doesn’t realize Daisy has a life of her own now without him involved to greatly within it. Is that really true love? Gatsby doesn’t think Daisy has a real life she is obligated to. He believes she is obligated to him and only him. Gatsby also believes there is no conflict between himself and Daisy that could arise. This however is very untrue.

Gatsby doesn’t realize in a way that Daisy is married or at least thinks she married to save herself. She admits however that she loves both of the men she is deeply involved with, Gatsby and Tom. She states, “I did love him once-but I loved you too”(140). Gatsby has to prove himself to Daisy with material possessions because that is all he has now. He doesn’t really have a respectable position in society although it is upbeat all the time. Nick says, “While we admired he brought more and the soft rich heap mounted higher-shirts with stripes and scrolls and plaids in coral and pple green and lavender and faint orange with monograms of Indian blue” (98).

Gatsby doesn’t realize none of these things will change the way she feels for her husband. Gatsby’s love doesn’t seem to be enough for her. Daisy wants more then what he can offer her. Gatsby might have the feeling of proving himself to her but this won’t change what has already happened. Daisy loves Tom now and no real material can change that sadly for Gatsby. Gatsby was in love with Daisy and this is true. Gatsby still loved Daisy after the war and this is true as well.

Daisy loves Gatsby and will forever, true again. But the fact is that Gatsby views Daisy as a perfect person and she has to live up to this. She obviously doesn’t but he is too blinded by love to see it. He is in love with a past Daisy that was dead after he left for the war. The present Daisy has a new love and thus this brings up conflict. Gatsby is trying to this Daisy but it will not work with material wealth because she already has that with Tom. So in the end Gatsby might love Daisy but the Daisy he loves is no more and this new one doesn’t love him with the same passion as the old.
