Tom Yorke High And Dry Analysis Essay

As we listen to new songs every day, we learn new things from them. We sometimes try to guess the plot or the meaning of the song and how the lyrics portray what the artist is saying. Radiohead was a top band in the 1990s. They sold many albums and became very popular. In the song “High and Dry,” there is a deep meaning of how Thom Yorke sings this song. It was the first single released from their second album called The Bends on March 5, 1995. This song brings out the musical elements of how the song is combine with the lyrics.

The way the song is delivered and how Tom Yorke sings out the message to the audience. When I first listened to this song, the first musical element that Theard were the drums. It give me a sense of vibe that goes through you with every hit which makes a good thing inside you. It starts off with a crash symbol and a bass drum hitting together, and then all you hear is just the bass drum hitting with the ride symbol hitting every now and then. This helps the audience get engaged into what the song is going to be about and what happens next.

After a few measures, you hear the lead acoustic guitar. It starts playing the melody that you hear throughout the whole song. The instruments that are playing make you feel sad and happy at the same time. So mostly the main three musical elements that you hear are the ride symbol, bass drum, and the acoustic guitar. These three elements bring out the concept of the song by making you feel the emotion in it. I chose this song because of how the vocal delivery is said throughout the song.

When I first listened to this song, I really could not connect until I listened to it again over and over. This song sounds similar to the song “True Love Waits” by Radio Head. They both have the same rhythmic function with the lead acoustic guitar playing the same rhythm that it plays in the beginning of “High and Dry”. “High and Dry” is also delivered in a way that moves you to what the singer is saying throughout the song. The delivery of this song shows how someone thinks that he is above everyone else when he really is not.

It also shows how you would feel at some points in life that sometimes you just want to give up on yourself. The last delivery shows that person can sometimes lose the best thing that they ever had and now it is now gone. In addition to the delivery, the lyrics give a really big meaning to the song. The first set of lyrics that hit me were “You’d kill yourself for recognition, Kill yourself to never ever stop. ” These words tell you that sometimes you just want to kill yourself because of the way that you like that you could never stop killing yourself over and over.

Never try to kill yourself because all you are doing is just hurting yourself. The second set of lyrics that hit me were “You broke another mirror, You’re turning into something you are not. ” What it is saying is that you are trying to be something that you are not and you just keep breaking everything. The main lyrics of this song are “Don’t leave me high, don’t leave me dry. ” This set of lyrics says that if you put yourself high, do not leave yourself up there high and dry.

The third set of lyrics that hit me are “Drying up in conversation, You will be the one who cannot talk. ” What it is saying is that you want to have a conversation with someone but when you try to your words just dry up inside that you can not anymore. The fourth set of lyrics that I really liked were “All your insides fall to pieces, You just sit there wishing you could still make love. ” It is saying that you want to make love to someone but you can not because you do not know how to so that is why your insides are falling out. And then you have to the main lyrics again.

The last set of lyrics that really hit me were “It’s the best thing that you ever had, The best thing you ever had has gone away. ” This really hit me because what is saying is that you had the best thing that you could ever have in your life and now you have lost it out of your life forever and you can never get it back. The reason I chose these certain set of lyrics is because they are the true meaning of this song. , the genre of this song is soft rock. I am really not a big fan of rock music but this song really had a huge impact on me that made me fall in love with it.

The pace and tempo of the song is slow and steady and I like songs that are like that because I can really connect to them and it helps me understand them more better than a very fast and not steady song. This song should relate to a lot of people who go through the problems that faced in this song. It can help them better relate what they are going through in life. High and Dry is a really great song by Radiohead and it helps me relate to it in many ways that have been through in my life.
