The Carnal Mind Essay

The true spiritually minded believer is a very rare thing in our world today. Many believers profess to be spiritual, yet their actions express differently. One of the primary reasons why we have so many divisions in Christianity over doctrines is because of the carnal mind. The truth of God is only perceived and understood when the Holy Spirit imparts to a person’s eyes to see and communicates to them the revelation of the truth. Apart from the revelations from the Holy Spirit, the believer would continue in the carnal mind.

The revelation of truth dispels the carnal mind and brings enlightenment to the eliever where their mind is renewed. Romans 16:25-27 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the aionian God, for obedience to the faith- to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ unto the ages.

Amen. 2 Corinthians 12:1 It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: Galatians 1:11-12 But I make known to you, brethren, that the ospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:15-21 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of he glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

If we walk after the flesh and sin, it is because we are allowing the carnal mind to be in control, and our minds are not renewed in that area. If we continue in this we will walk in death because o be carnally minded is death. For the wages of sin is death, and if we walk after the flesh it produces death, not only the eventual cessation of life from the body but the bringing in of sickness and disease.

The carnal mind is in rebellion to God and His ways, and if we continue on this path it ultimately brings in physical death, but before the physical death occurs, what is experienced is the roots of physical death, sickness, and disease. Romans 8:5-7 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

To become spiritually minded we must receive the revelation of truth from the Holy Spirit as we read and meditate on the Word of God, and this will transform our minds to perceive, understand, and to think in a spiritual way. In order to have our minds renewed and be spiritually minded, we must sow spiritual hings. If we sow carnal things from this fallen world, then we will reap a carnal mind, but if we sow the spiritual things then we will reap the spiritual mind. The Holy Spirit teaches us the truth by revealing revelations to us, and this only happens when we are in the Word of God either reac we think that we will become spiritually minded by just spending five minutes a day reading the Word of God, is just wishful thinking and not reality.

If you are doing this, then you are selling yourself short, you cannot expect God to trust you with the deeper hidden mysteries in His word. You must humbly and aithfully come to the Lord, and sincerely seek Him with your whole heart, believing that He will reveal to you His truth. There is only one truth, and it is God’s purpose of the ages in Christ, and only the Holy Spirit through revelation reveals it. If we commit ourselves to reading and meditating on the Word of God diligently and become familiar with the Word of God, only then will we have the foundation for the Holy Spirit to bring revelations that will transform and renew our minds.

Ephesians 4:20-24 But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth s in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Romans 12:1-2 1 beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good nd acceptable and perfect will of God.

Galatians 6:7-8 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap aionian life. Faith is the key to unlocking the fullness of God in Christ. The Lord Jesus demonstrated the life of God while He walked on earth, and this life is now available to the one who believes in Him by faith. In order to walk in the power of this indestructible life, we must have our minds renewed, and washed by the word of God. This new life in Christ cannot be ours as long as we remain carnally minded because the carnal mind is full of doubt and does not trust God.

If we desire to enter into the fullness of God in Christ and enter into the blessedness of the life that the Heavenly Father and our blessed Lord Jesus enjoys, then we must be spiritually minded. This is completely the work of the Holy Spirit to transform, renew, and to wash our minds, enabling us to be spiritually minded, and to be full of faith, which opens up to us all the fullness of God demonstrated by the Lord Jesus Christ and the life He lived. Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

Titus 3:4-7 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of aionian life. Hebrews 7:15-16 And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek, there arises another priest who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an indestructible life. The best way to know if you are spiritually minded or carnally minded is to look at how those in the world are thinking and acting. If you are thinking and doing the same things, then chances are you most likely are walking in the flesh and are carnally minded.

However, if you find this world and the things of this world repulsive, then you truly have your mind renewed, and are spiritually minded. The spiritually minded believer understands that the world is not our home and we are no longer of this world, our home is, a heavenly country, with a city whose builder and maker is God. A truly spiritually minded believer will despise this fallen world, and will walk after the Spirit, not the flesh, and their desire will not be to please themselves, but will do all things to please their beloved Lord and Savior. The spiritually minded believer always seeks the Lord’s will and daily picks up their cross and follows the Lord wherever He leads.

John 15:18-19 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. John 17:14-16 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just aslam not of the world. Hebrews 11:8-10 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Hebrews 11:13-16 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. The carnal believer has not learned to deny self and all the lust of the flesh, and will not attain unto the firstborn inheritance. Those that are spiritually minded have learned how to crucify the flesh, and by faith, walk in all the fullness of God in Christ. The only way that a carnal believer will become a spiritually minded believer is to forsake this world, and the things in this world, and to commit themselves wholeheartedly to the Lord without any strings attached. There is no halfway Christian, either you are all for the Lord or you’re not.

The decision must be made and settled now, in order for the Holy Spirit to begin the work of transforming you from a carnally minded believer to a spiritually minded believer. The biggest obstacle to overcome is to stop listening to the enemy’s lies that hinders the believer from entering into their inheritance that has already been purchased for them by the Lord Jesus. By renewing your mind with the word of God, the Holy Spirit reveals by revelation who you are in Christ, and give you the faith to believe, and to walk in its fullness, the fullness of God in Christ. Cast off all things that are hindering you now from walking in your full inheritance in Christ, and walk in the blessedness of the newness of life.
