Steve Jobs Drop Out Of College Essay

Steve Jobs, an American businessman, was one of the most successful individuals of all the time. Jobs co-founded Apple in 1976 and he was best known as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Apple Inc. Steve Jobs dropped out of college and he became successful despite not having and education. In Steve Jobs’ Commencement Address to Stanford University, he reveals that it is important to find what you love to do and to spend your life enjoying every moment you live. Although is it profound to pursue what you love, taking the risk of dropping out of college to do what you love does not work for most people.

I support Jobs’ argument that we should do what we love, however, not many people have the same skills and resources that Jobs did to achieve something out of college. Dropping out of college to pursue a dream is the best option for those with a lot of resources and skills, however, it is not the best for those with insufficient abilities and wealth, hence, it is absurd dropping out of college to accomplish more thing than an education can offer. Steve Jobs argues that, “If he had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts”.

It is obvious the reason why Steve Jobs succeed with the creation of the Mac was not because he dropped out of college. His success was unlike the common college student that drops out of college, in other words, Steve Jobs had more abilities and resources and luck. Jobs also argues that “If he never dropped out, he would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do”.

What Jobs went through when he dropped out of college is ery unlike to happen; It is true that we must follow our dreams and do what we love, however, we must also value education. Education should be mandatory even at a higher level because a not many will be able to accomplish what they want by dropping out of college like Jobs did. Jobs stated, “I was lucky” in his Commencement Address to Stanford, this is a reality for college students that either drop or do not go to college at all. It is a risk doing what you love doing and not getting an education.

It is difficult being able to accomplish what you want and not going to college, hence dropping out of college should not be an option for anyone because we need to value what a lot of people in other countries cannot obtain. Other than the dreams and goals of the people, college should be used as a second option. People should definitely try and risk doing what they love to do, however, they should not drop out of college. It is critical to have a second option because unlike Steve Jobs, not everyone will have the same luck.

It is a gamble to do what you love doing and it is absurd not taking the opportunities that are given to people to get an education. “I’m pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn’t been fired from apple”, although he was successful after he got fired from Apple, it does not imply that the cause of his success was because of getting fired. Jobs is one of a few people that has been extremely successful and famous for succeeding without an education, however, others could not have the same fortune. Although the ideas of always finding what you love is true, Jobs exaggerates that dropping out of college should be an option.

Despite that, Jobs is correct arguing that “we should not waste our time living someone else’s life”. Jobs also argued that we should not let the noise of others’ opinions drown out our own inner voice and that it is important to have courage to follow our heart and intuition. This is correct, however, people should always give themselves an opportunity to get educated and finding what you love doing by going to college and getting a career. The fact that we should always find what we love to do does not necessarily implies that dropping out of college is an option.

Steve Jobs is correct revealing that we should follow our dreams and live happy doing what we love the most, however, it is an absurd ideas dropping out of college to risk everything. People should do what they love but college should always be an option because education can lead to anything people dreams of. Although college must be tedious for many people, having an education will increase the probability of a person to succeed in life doing what they love doing. Educations is not only the key to success, but also they key to happiness.
