Art allow people to send awareness of problems that have been easily rejected by justice. The second art Museum that I attended this semester was the National Museum of Mexican art. I was very excited to attend this museum because after seeing the Art Institute for the first time I felt in love with art. When I arrive at the museum I enter the first exhibit as my friend and I were talking around the corner one beautiful painting caught my attention. The name of the art piece was Los Suenos Rotos (Broken Dreams) by Rocio Caballero.
This painting stood out to because of how realistic this painting looked. I told my friend that this painting was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, my friend also liked it. Rocio Caballero is a figurative painter who was born in Mexico in 1964. The majority of Caballero’s art consists of mythical worlds and symbolical events. According to Caballero, “I have always been much against the battle of the sexes; I like to look at the world and all artists as individual. My surname is a game that is like very much to play.
I am a “Caballero” (gentleman in Spanish) and I paint as one. For many years, and especially when I began to paint, it was an offence (lit. stigma) to say to me that my way of drawing was very masculine; I didn’t see what it had to do with being a woman. ” This quote means that Rocio Caballero does not want to identify herself as a female artist because for her being an artist goes beyond your gender. She does not want to be judge for her paintings based on her being a woman. She wants to be judge for being an ordinary artist. Her paintings go beyond the mythical world.
When a person looks at her paintings it makes them wonder what the true meaning for this painting. Caballero is mostly known for her paintings that have a symbolic meaning to them. One of her most famous art piece is “Broken Dreams. ” Rocio Caballero created her painting broken Dreams in the year 2009. According to the National Museum of Mexican Art, “Broken Dreams,” is a large-scale painting depicting a bride in a white wedding gown trapped between two pink crosses (which have come to symbolize femicides), a string of paper dolls hanging loose in her grasp.
The message that Caballero painting is trying to send is that people all over the world should become aware of the horrible things that women from Cuidad Juarez are going through. The painting is so detail that it looks like a real photograph. The face expression that the woman in the wedding dress has is priceless. By just looking at her face expression one can tell that there is sadness in her soul. The paper dolls that she is holding in her hand can symbolize the young girls who have been brutally murder, while the two pink crosses symbolized the death of many innocent women.
The political and social history behind Broken Dreams is that the artist wanted to give awareness of what women in the City of Juarez have to go through. For about twenty-two years now, women in the city of Juarez have been struggling with the violence that is happening around them. Women who live in this city have to live their lives with the fear of one day being sexually abused and killed by criminals. The political meaning behind this piece is that by giving awareness to this cause the artist can help support the cause of the victims who’s crimes have not been resolve.
This also helps give the families of the victim some comfort because the artist is sending the message that people should be aware of the injustices that are happening around them and to help support this cause because only then these families can grieve in peace. The first thing that came into my mind when I saw this painting is, that life can end in one second. Seeing the sadness in the face of the women makes me realized the injustices that are going around the world.
How women are not treated with respect in other countries and how innocent lives are lost everyday because of how corrupted the world is. I was born in Mexico and I know that in general has a corrupted justice system. Seeing all the violence that goes around my native land makes me not want to go back and visit because of the fear of being a victim. As women I can relate to these women who have no say in the justice. It is really sad to see that nothing is done to make this problem stop.
It is sad to see all these young innocent women die because of senseless criminals that can get away with everything because Mexico’s justice system is so corrupted. I really like this painting because it is sending a powerful message to the world. That if we want justice we have to fight for it because this world is so corrupted that if we do not stick together we will not allow our voices to be heard. Giving awareness about what id going on in other part of the world is good because by giving awareness others can help solve the problems that for many years we have been trying to solve.
