Essay On Personal Narrative: A Day After Halloween

Personal Narrative The day right after Halloween, of the year of 2014, was the day of my Uncle’s, Pollo’s funeral. It has been 2 weeks since he died in a hospital. Here is an excerpt from a daily action news, “A Red Bluff man who was beaten unconscious last week has died from his injuries officials announced Monday. Red Bluff Police were called to fight in progress on the 700 block of South Jackson Street just after 5 p. m. Wednesday. When officers arrived found 33-year-old Rogelio McDarment lying in the road near an apartment complex.

McDarment was taken to Mercy Medical center where he died Saturday. Working with a vehicle description and witness descriptions, investigators identified Joseph Michael Cadotte as a suspect and he was taken into custody Thursday afternoon. Cadotte was booked into the Tehama County Jail for battery with great bodily injury, the charge is expected to be amended by the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office. Bail has been set at $1 million. My Mom, my uncle’s sister, she is the best Mom in the world and without her and my real dad I would have never existed and Leti(Leticia Sanchez) my Mom’s best friend for her life, consider themselves as sisters(which we still think of them as sisters), they both went to court against Joseph Cadotte. Cadotte and T. C killed my Uncle Roy by hitting him with a crowbar on his spinal cord and leaving him lying on the ground on Jackson street.

He was brain dead meaning that his brain was dead. (short version). Here is what they said, my Mom and Leti, on krctv. om , “RED BLUFF, Calif. -Red Bluff police said 28-year-old Joseph Cadotte assaulted 33-year-old Rogelio McDarment on South Jackson street October 15. Cadotte was arrested and booked with one charge of battery with a serious bodily injury but when McDarment died, an additional charge of voluntary manslaughter was added. McDarment’s friends and family set up a memorial at the very block where McDarment was assaulted. They said since McDarment is not around to testify, they will testify for him so justice can be served.

McDarment’s family left flowers, balloons, and an array of candles to remember McDarment as a man who had a big heart. “He always wanted to see people laugh. He always tried to help people out anyway that he could,” said Laticia Sanchez who is a family friend to McDarment. Sanchez said when police told her the fight started over stolen clothing she could not believe it. “It makes me angry and it really makes me think what goes through people’s minds when you do something like this.

Somebody’s life had to be taken over some clothing. It doesn’t make sense to me,” Sanchez said. Investigators believe Cadotte and McDarment knew each other but Sanchez said she had never heard his name before. Cadotte is in the Tehama County jail on two separate charges of serious bodily injury and voluntary manslaughter. He is due back in court on October 28 and his bail is set at $1 million. The McDarment family is also asking for donations to help cover funeral and memorial service costs.

In the morning we got up showered, dressed, took medication if they took medication. After that we made our beds and then ate breakfast which was pancakes, cereal, and Arroz Con Leche. After eating breakfast, we all got into our red van and drove down the road to Hoyt-Cole Chapel of Flowers on 816 Walnut Street, Red Bluff CA 96080.

After a couple of minutes Of waiting outside the chapel Leti arrived with her kids;Lily the oldest, Llusia, Gabriel, Eduardo, And Angelica , Aunt Johanna, my Mom’s godmother, friends, family friends, and relatives. My Mom and Dad(stepdad) passed out the t-shirts they ordered, they were white tshirts with my uncle’s picture, DOB(Date Of Birth) and DOD(Date Of Death) and in memory with his name printed on it and then we went inside the chapel. As soon as we passed through the entrance we had to sign in and our name and address.

We then told happy times we had with him and my Dad brought sage with him and burned it and walked around with it so everyone was surrounded in the smoke of sage the smoke formed many shapes including hearts, animals, and other forms hard to describe. Pretty soon my Mom’s friend came and sang “Dancing in the Sky” by Dan and Izzy We then said e then said our last words to him. But then one of my Mom’s cousins and her friend came to see Tio Pollo. We didn’t let them but then we finally decided to let her and her friend see Pollo for only a couple of minutes.

They both smelled like drugs but trying to cover it with perfume which made it smell even worse, but worse than that they both even pretended to be crying. That made me mad. After they saw him we took everything everyone brought and what the church made and gave us and we went to Luigi’s by Foodmaxx and ordered 4 large pizzas 2 pepperoni and 2 cheese pizzas. We all ate and drank enjoying the rest of the evening. The food there was delicious. Most of us went to the arcade room to play games, my brothers and sisters won toys and so did I.

It then started to rain and lightning flashing. It meant that Tio Pollo had crossed through the gates of heaven and then we got our stuff and went home. It was a sad and happy day. From that day on I knew| had to move on with my life. My whole family were all sad about what happened to him. Maybe God and Abuela needed him up in heaven or maybe it was just his time to go . And below is a picture of my uncle on the left and on the right the is a picture of his murderer.
