Essay on Baptist Church Observation

Tam analyzing Baptist church religious services. There are many roles that happen during a religious setting. There will always be a pastor, father, or any preferred name to whomever conducts the ceremony and depending on the status of the church there will be two or more deacons. Deacons are typically the right hand help for the church or pastor. Another role within the church is the electrician in the church. Someone who is capable of working the technology, to handle the lights, speakers, and display of the overall service.

The role of the electrician is a huge part, depending on the ceremony without an electrician the ceremony wouldn’t be able to go on. Finally, the audience, the members who attend the religious ceremony and take part in the church. The audience is as big as the electrician, without an audience no interaction is taking place. The ways roles interact are greetings, singing, offerings, and much more. Greeting time is normally a time to interact with members of the church. Greetings are typically the first thing that happens at the religious event.

The greetings can generate from a simple handshake to a friendly hug depending on the relationship the members have with one another. It’s a good way to introduce one another or to kindle old friendships for the time being. Another great way to connect is through music, singing the songs together is great way to interact. Normally it would be trying to out sing someone or be the person who sing with passion. Typically, in a religious service there is three to four song that connect to the Lord himself or his savors.

During this time, one may stand or one may sit while singing. It’s up to your preference but in most occasions the members tend to stand. Another preference is a hymns book. The electrician usually puts up a slide with the lyrics attached for the members of the church, but most members tend to sing from the book. The songs help everyone interact and connect in a strong bond towards a similarity, which is the Lord. At the given time where everyone is singing, everyone is also connected and on the same level as the highest position in the room.

Even though the highest authority figure is most likely the pastor, all is one with the Lord. Songs can range from “You Are My Hiding Place” and “God is so good” to “Heavenly Sunlight” and “Standing on the Promises. ” Any week is different, the songs change depending on the way the church wants the members to interact. Tithes and offerings are also a great way to have interaction. Offerings are a gift. Members of the church are not commanded to give during offerings, nothing is acceptable.

After the interactions at the offering a church usually sends its regards to the Lord with a song or short hymn, which is typically called a doxology. In reference, a commonly heard doxology is, “Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye Heavenly Host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen” by Thomas Ken. A doxology renders a way to praise the Lord. All in all, uniting the members under one God. Finally, the last thing that happens in a form of interaction is goodbyes.

Normally, the head figure would wait patiently by the doors while sending regards, appreciation, or thanks to the fellow members, resulting in another hug or handshake before the members leave the church. There are many forms of speech used within a service. A service typically holds respectful and friendly script. Members of the church would not yell or act inappropriately in the house of God. When in the doors of the church it is commonly kind acts and words that float around the atmosphere, all starting from “your outfit looks lovely” and “such beautiful hair” to “I’ll get that for you” and “I’ll take the coat off your hands”.

Overall, the main kinds of speech bring forth informality. Names and nicknames within the church would be the same names the members use outside, “Mrs. D”, “Marilyn”, and “Pastor”. Even though the members state each other’s names it is still in a respectable way. Overall, even if its respectful the church is filled with laughter or tears, constant joking with each other is a given in the church, it’s a light atmosphere.

Jokes from their own life, the environment around them, or “Four worms were placed into four separate jars: first worm was put into a container of alcohol, the second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke, the third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup, and the fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil. At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results: The first worm in alcohol is dead, the second worm in cigarette smoke is dead, third worm in chocolate syrup is dead, and the fourth worm in good clean soil is alive.

So the Minister asked the congregation ‘What did you learn from this demonstration? ‘ Maxine was sitting in the back, quickly raised her hand and said, ‘As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won’t have worms! ” Somedays the Pastor doesn’t say a joke to the members but instead he’ll give them a little fact that connects what is going to happen at that service like, “there are twenty-five muscles in the face, how many expressions do those twenty-five make? 10,000 different expressions. ” The best way to interact with people is through God’s words.

The Pastor praises and preaches to the members with passion. The passion he holds he wants to give to the younger generations through his words, “the world is a tough place, a negative place” but “God’s grace is efficient. ” Pastor preaching to his people that God gave glasses to “help [us] understand that there was one creator” that the bible is “more factual information that is a history book” and that the bible “doesn’t contradict itself. ” The way to understand the patterns of the way people use language are through the forms of respect and religion.

Everything comes down to respect. Respect is a huge part in a community. Families or other social institutions should have taught generations to be highly respectable towards elders. In this situation, the church has a few young generations; however, it’s older generations than anything else, which requires for the atmosphere to be filled with respect. It’s disrespectful to go against an elder. Religion also plays a huge deal with understanding the patterns of language within a service.

While being taught manners and morals, generations should have been also taught to respect and behave in the house of God. Meaning that no swearing could happen or saying God’s name in vain, holding the tongue would be a good way to not get in trouble. A Baptist church signifies the importance of connecting with one another through God. A common ground that everyone can enjoy and cherish from. The only way for a church to be able to stand is to have important roles, figures, parts, interactions, and people to unify everything together.
