Contraception and Abortion

Contraception is considered acceptable in some churches and not in others. The Roman Catholic Church have a very strong objection to any form of birth control or abortion. They teach that all life is a gift from God, that it is precious and sacred because everybody is ‘created in the image of god. ‘ They don’t believe in contraception because they think that every female egg or male sperm contains potential life. Equally, they don’t believe in abortion because life begins at conception and because of this, they think that abortion, at any point during the pregnancy, even when the fetus is ending a life.

That even if the fetus is unable to survive outside of the womb, it is murder. ‘The Catechism of the Catholic church states “from the first moment of his or her existence, a human being must be recognised as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life. ‘ An alternative to abortian is adoption. Catholics believe that if the Mother is unable to support and look after a baby, then it should be put up for adoption for a family who will be able to If a Cotholic was to have an abortion, they would be considered to be disregarding one of the 10 commandments (6th- ‘Do not kill. ) Anglicans and Methodists teach that abortion is wrong, however, it is justifiable if the mother would be in harm delivering, or looking after, the baby. Also if the baby was to be sevierly disabled or if the mother was raped, having a termination would be acceptable. They say that life doesn’t begin untill the baby is able to survive on it’s own outside of the womb so an abortian at early stages of the pregnancy is fine, aslong as the embryo could be independent.
