Abortion: the Two Sides of a Controversial Issue.

The word abortion means the “Also called voluntary abortion. The removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy. ” (Dictionary). Abortion is a major issue in the world today. People in many countries are having abortion each year even if it is going against their religion. There are many arguments for and against abortion. It Is a really polemic topic to write and talk about and It causes controversies wherever is being discussed. Today, the country Is basically divided by two groups the Pro-life and Pro-choice.

The first group claims that they are fighting to save a life that can not protect itself. It also says that the abortion is a sin and the women who submit themselves to such aggressive procedure are sinners. The other part states that they respect the choice of the women. The right of having an abortion Is absolutely their choice. This will be a never end discussion, because neither part will never give up in this war. People that are pro abortion area called Pro-choice groups. They consider that it the right of the any woman to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes to do so.

These groups live that the abortion should be made legal and be offered to all women. “A woman should have the right to end her pregnancy if she wishes” (pro-choice), this is based that a woman has absolute right over her body. Abortion should be legal to stop unsafe abortion practices. This is one of the strongest arguments from the Pro- choice group. In these days, women can get an abortion anywhere they want to. These unsafe practices are very dangerous and could maybe even lead to death of the mother or the child. For these reasons the Pro-choice groups supports that the abortion should be legal.

At severe situations, the abortion maybe required, for example if a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, it would be extremely difficult for nay women to raise a child that comes for a rape. Another point Is come from the financial situation of the mother. If she does not have enough income to raise a child properly and she should have the choice of the abortion. The unwanted child suffers. Many times the mother of the child is very young and inexperienced to take care of the child. The kid is malnourished, has no medical care, and has little or no attention or love.

Pro-choice groups argue that if the woman will UT a child in an uncertain childhood or life, she will not only be ruining her life but the child as well. The answer Is really basic true: we have to survive as best we can. These women want to live their lives as they choose to do so, no as It Is chosen by someone else. Being forced to accept a child could mean to hold and give up dreams of a better life. Also, be forced to an “unwanted marriage”, to save their reputation. In the book, Back Rooms, by Ellen Messes, a woman named Liz, explain her reasons for receiving an abortion. “People have said to me, ‘how can you be in favor of an abortion?

If you had one, you wouldn’t have these beautiful children. ‘ But I would have had them. It Just would have been later when I was better prepared to been more prepared and all our lives would have been so much easier. Even though, I love my children dearly, I regret that I did not have an abortion when I was given the option. I should never have let others influence my decision” (29) Abortion is a choice that should be decided by each individual, argues the Pro-choice group. Abortion is not a murder since the fetus is not yet a fully human; therefore, it is not in disobedience against God.

Regardless of the reason for the abortion, it must be a choice the woman should have. While adoption is an option some women chose, many women do not want to suffer the physical and emotional trauma of pregnancy and labor only to give up a child. However, laws should remain in effect that protects a woman’s right to chose. Every woman in America has the right to decide what they want to do with their bodies. No government or group should feel they have the right to dictates whatever a person must to do with their body. Abortion and the choice a woman may make, it is a very private thing and should not be open to debate.

The question of morality should not even come into discussion when considering abortion, because in this case is not morality but of choice and constitutionally. On the other side, the Pro-life groups recognize the value of all human life, including the unborn child. The Pro-life argument is that all human life is sacred. They believe that this life begins from the moment of conception and anything that takes away this life is equal to murder. If it is wrong to kill a baby of 2 months, then it is the same of to kill a 2 month old embryo. They see every human life both within and outside of the womb as sacred and from God.

In today’s society, many women are career orientated and the arrival of a child may ruin their career prospects. The Pro-Life movement believes that no human situation can Justify the taking of an innocent life. Obviously a person in this situation must seek for counseling or help in knowing how to reconcile her pregnancy with her career. They also say that an abortion plays an important role in the mother’s emotions. For the rest of her life the mother will feel guilty of the killing, desire to become pregnant again, emotional numbness, depression, frequent crying, and worst of all suicidal urges.

Not only does her body and emotions get scarred, statistics says that many women suffer from Post Abortion Syndrome. What happens is that the mother gets preoccupied with her aborted child and she has flashbacks of the abortion experience. She starts to fell crazy and hallucinates. Some of the Pro-Life groups are Human Life International, The Christian Coalition, and many others support the right of the human life. They also argue that the abortion clinics are trying to play “God” by killing someone. However, they say that an abortion is a dangerous procedure, and puts the mother and the baby at risk.

The Pro-Life advocates that there are others options besides the abortion. Adoption, for instance, provides an alternative to abortion. Adoption would provide the baby with, a warm and loving home. Many Pro-Life supporters feel like “you choose to have sex, now you have to must face the consequences of your actions”. It is possible for one to be supportive of abortion on political level, but be against abortion on a personal level. Although many individuals say this idea is contradictory, different people have evidently had different morals and values based on religion, from parents, friends, Emily, experience, and knowledge.

Even though most Americans would believe that, difference between these values creates challenges for government in modern society. Abortion must be viewed as an issue with many angles. If a person is Pro-Life, is she or he opposed to abortion altogether, is there a period early in the pregnancy that the fetus may be appropriately terminated, or there are circumstances, such as rape, incest, or danger to the life of the mother, that Justify the end of a pregnancy? If another is Pro-Choice, is he or she in favor of abortion on NY given time, regardless of the fetus’ viability.
