Abortion

Abortion, the early termination of a pregnancy, is a very controversial topic in today’s society. Abortion is the extraction of the human fetus from the mother’s womb with an intention to end the life of that fetus prior to its natural birth. The most popular abortion procedure is called vacuum aspiration, which is completed during the first trimester of the pregnancy. A tube is simply inserted through the cervix and the contents of the uterus are vacuumed out. The controversy starts on whether abortion should be legal or to.

Many people believe that aborting an unwanted child is inhumane and should be illegal, but others believe that a woman should have the liberty to do what she thinks is best for her life. The term “Pro-Choice” is given to those who advocate the legalization of abortion and believe that women should be able to freely make their own health care decisions without government interference. The Pro Choice party does not necessarily promote abortion, but merely support a woman’s right to her own free will and decisions to make on her own body.

The freedom to have control of our own body and to do as we desire is critical to our civil rights. Pro Choice participants believe that abortion should be legal for a number of reasons and the pros definitely outweigh the cons of abortion. Many Pro Choicer feel that abortion is justified and absolutely necessary in certain situations such as rape. Abortion procedures are completely safe, do not affect a woman’s future health or future ability to give birth or become pregnant, and have less than a 0. 5% risk of serious complications.

Unfortunately, making laws prohibiting abortion will to fully stop abortion, but instead make it drastically more dangerous. If abortion is made illegal, then women will just turn to an unsafe and unprofessional procedure to get rid of her baby. According to the National Institute of Health, 68,000 women die of unsafe abortions annually, making it one of the leading causes of maternal mortality. Most of the women who survive these unsafe procedures will suffer the rest of their life with long-term health complications. If a woman becomes pregnant after a sexual assault, would it be fair to force her to carry out an unwanted pregnancy?

A woman who becomes pregnant after being raped is the victim of a horribly violent and morally inexcusable crime. In the case of rape, forcing a pregnant woman to give birth would cause psychological harm to the victim. Pregnancy caused by rape is the result of a great injustice and the victim should not be obligated to carry out the pregnancy. If she chose to carry the child, she would be reminded for nine months about the violent acts committed against her and potentially increase her mental instability. The value of the victim’s mental health is reasoned to be greater than that of the fetus.

In these cases, an abortion is morally justified. If you were a victim of rape, would you want to carry out the pregnancy? What will happen to a child born to parents who lack parental responsibilities? He or she will most likely be raised in a dysfunctional family who will harm the child physically, emotionally, and mentally. Many parents will try to give up their children for adoption, but orphanages around the world are being overflowed with too many children. Many orphanages are lacking vital supplies to properly raise and educate the large portion of children left there.

It will be even more damaging to children left there for eighteen years, which in most cases does happen to a large majority of the children left in an orphanage. Many teenage girls do not take close consideration into their actions and do not think about the consequences that can happen. Teenage girls who become mothers have grim prospects for their future. According to Family Plus, nearly one million teenage girls get pregnant each year and more than 50% of teenage mothers do not graduate from high school. According to documenting. Rig, around 50% of teenage girls ever considered how a pregnancy would affect their lives. As stated by mattering. Com, teenage moms are more likely to live in poverty and are less likely to get an education. The advantages of abortions include finishing school, going to college, not receiving welfare, and not having the responsibility to take care of a child when they are not equipped to do so. Those who are against abortion are given the term “Pro-Life”. They believe that the government has an obligation to protect and preserve all human life.

Also, they believe that abortion unjustly takes the life of a defenseless human being. Many of these Pro-Life activists are against abortion because of their religious views and they believe that the moment of life begins at conception, or the moment the sperm fertilizes the egg. If Persephone really does begin at conception, then abortion would be the immoral killing of an innocent human being. These opponents argue the fact that a fetus is a living human being with a heartbeat and brain that deserves to have a chance to live. After just six weeks, the child has developed eyes, eyelids, a nose, and a mouth.

By the 10th week after fertilization, the child can make bodily movement. Pro- fears believe that life is sacred and inviolable; no one should be able to take away someone’s life away from them especially the life of a vulnerable and innocent child. Those against abortion also deeply feel for couples that are unable to conceive and still wish to raise children. Adoption is a great alternative to abortion. Many women have long been dealing with Polycyclic Ovary Syndrome (POS), one of the leading causes of infertility, or the inability to conceive offspring.

Instead of aborting an unwanted infant, they could be placed in an adoption center and hopefully be adopted by loving parents who ill properly raise the child. In this case, abortion would be completely unnecessary because of the high number of parents that wish to adopt. There is no reason why an innocent life should be taken away from a child when a loving family who is willing to raise the child could easily prevent it. “With more than a million families wanting to adopt, there is no such thing as an unwanted child. ” Many religious crowds believe that abortion offends God and his entire creation.

They believe abortion is murder and it should never be justified under any circumstances. No one should have the power to take away the life of anyone besides God. Many abortion opponents believe that a civilized society would not tolerate one human to purposely harm or take the life of another human being, and abortion should not be treated differently. Many Americans who pay taxes are against abortion therefore it is wrong to use their money to fund a cause that they do not support. Those who choose abortion tend to be young, misguided women who do not fully understand what they are doing and many have lifelong regrets.

Proponents who are Pro Choice contend that choosing abortion is a redeem that should not be interfered with by the government or any religious authority that thinks it is inhumane. By making abortion illegal, the problem will just worsen. Pregnant women will resort to an unsafe and illegal abortion procedure if there is not any other legal option. About 70,000 women die annually due to unsafe abortions, making it the leading cause of maternal mortality. Proponents who are Pro Life believe that abortion is the unlawful murder of an innocent child.
